most codes in any car can be cleared by disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes, if it comes back there is actually something going on and not just a glitch. if that is the case GM has a code scanner thing that they plug into the truck and it reads the code.

the security light maybe for your doors in that truck i think. check the little switchs that are surposed to compress when the doors are closed. they had problems with the third door closing properly on those extended cabs anyways. maybe some corrosion

This used to be the trick in 1998-2000, dont know if it still works:

1. Turn key to "on", but do not start.

2. Put shift selector in neutral.

3. Step on gas pedal, all the way to the floor, 3 seperate, distinct times.

4. Put the truck back in park.

5. Turn key off and wait about 15 seconds.

6. When you turn it back on, the codes should be cleared.

*However*, it is likely that a code is being set off for a reason, probably one of the sensors for the security system has gone bad.

my security indicator and the cargo lamp indicator come on all the time.

it doesn't affect anything operationally, except i was having a lot of issues with the alarm, so i put it in valet mode and havent worried about it since. i assumed that it was due to some interface thing with my remote starter/alarm. maybe? maybe not?

either way, its just a pretty light on my dash now.

oh yea, my truck is a 2000 sierra.

I have tried clearing them. I will look at the switches in the doors.
Truck is having issues starting and they think it has something to do with the security system but I dont believe it does.
Truck will start and run for about 1 second then die. It will not stay running. POS!
Thanks,
Lee

Fuel pump. I'll bet it has about 80,000 miles on it, that is when they tend to go bad.

Then you got lots of life out of one, or it was already replaced once.

what year/model is the truck? Also any aftermarket alarm/remote start issues? And does the security light flash at all at any time?

If its a mid 90's+ the problem of starting then stalling is an issue with the OE security function. Its possible that the "chip" in your key (if you have one) has lost its programming, hence why it starts but dies instantly.

It turned out to be the ingnition switch. part $116 labor $110 towing $100. Something to do with a chip in the key that the ignition switch senses. All I know is it runs now.
