Malden huh...do they have a website with a gallery of the work they have done there? Do you have Dierdre's portfolio that I can take a look at?

you can see some of their stuff on myspace.com/thepinos Don't know about their website right now. Dierdre is a great artist. I think they call her Doyle, she hasn't been tattooing as long as the rest of them, but the stuff I've seen her do is awesome. She has some of her work on her myspace page but I don't feel like digging it out at the moment. She's going to be doing one of my next ones.

Oh, and i said near malden. Inman square is in cambridge.

They have some great artists there as well! And its closer for me. Maybe I'll stop by there this weekend and see their portfolios. Thanks for the recommendation!

I got my work done there (not by Forrest, by Matty the apprentice at th time) back when Cobra was underground and tattoo's were illegal in Mass. Great stuff.
Wow, I think I may drop by there tomorrow and see what Forrest thinks about fixing up my tat and incorporating a Koi somehow.

yeah but everything else on that pic sucks.

I strongly suggest Captain's Bret in Newport RI...I had a small tattoo made on the back of my neck quite a few years ago by some tattoo parlor in Springfield (Nuclear Crayon), and it SUCKED. It was far from being asymetric, it was boring, lifeless tattoo...

Then I decided to make the plunge a second time and this guy did an awsome job at covering up my old tattoo with the one I have now...he specialize in tribal/celtic art, his portfolio is awsome. His shop is small, very clean and VERY private. You go in the back with him and no one is allowed in there while he's doing his artwork. It's right next to the police station in Newport. He's very professional. http://www.tribal-celtic-tattoo.com/ By the way, this is all HIS work, he works alone in his shop. He did Sean Penn's tattoo on his back, in the movie "Mystic River".

I used to go there, when Erik Lynch was there. Mat Clarke started the tattoo on Laurens upper back, a LONG time ago, Dug made it straight.

KB, I'll vouch that Laren's not a guy---she showed me that tat on her back one of the race weekends over by the bathrooms + I painted the bottom of the tat a creamy white color for her!!!

oh shit, sorry Chris, I wasn't supposed to tell you that part!!!

well, tell Lauren I said hi, + I'll be thinking of her (for the next 10mins)

question?
what do you guys usually tip for the work?
I'm getting another tattoo next week. Same guy that did my first one, he gave me a seriously good deal on the last one so I threw him $100 tip. It was a 7 hour tattoo.

A 12 or 24 of PBR. You pay 'em $100 an hour man, I don't see a need to tip. i don't tip the people at D&D for making my coffee or the lady at shaws for ringing up my groceries.

+1 for forrest at cobra customs. I had an outline from one shop that I didnt trust to fill in. I went to Forrest based on some friend's advice, and he helped me work out what to do with it, and how to fill it in.

As far as tipping goes, I am with hesso about not doing it usually, but when Forrest personally helped me figure out what I wanted on my body for hopefully a long time, there was no way I couldnt walk out of there without giving him a tip.

Tipping cash just doens't make sense to me. If you appreciate the work buy him something he's into. Hurly happens to be wild about PBRs.

Here's a tip, Mr. Tattoo Artist:

Enjoy the really expensive item you're going to buy with the $300 I just gave you for the checkered flag you drew on my calf.

point taken.
reason for the tip the first time was he only charged me $300 for the entire tattoo.

Yeah I hear ya. I got the Seven hours on my chest for $350. On big peices a lot of time they'll charge you a flat rate for a session. It's better for them because they don't have to do a bunch of setups for a bunch of small work and they know they won't be sitting around with no work so it evens out sometimes. Treat them to dinner or like i said, grab 'em a little present that they're into. Trinkets for the shop are cool. Most are happier with something like that than cash, and they'll remember you better when you come back for the next one.
