shifting in a car is just like on a bike - its a finess thing... you get better with practice - but i gotta get the first part down before i can get the finess a friend tried teachin me back in high school but that was a one time thing just for fun and i did better than our guy friends he said *shrug*

Do the same thing you do on a bike... it's just your feet are clutching and throttling and your hand is shifting...

but the theory is the same.... let the clutch out while applying the proper amount of gas... and you go...

put clutch in/let off gas, shift, let clutch out/throttle...

etc etc... same principle...

I'll bet you would figure it out pretty quick since you can ride and shift your bike....

If you can ride a bike (and we know you can), you'll have no problem driving a manual tranny. The only difference is the controls are in different places. Piece of cake. If you wanna get a manual tranny, get one. Within a week you'll be old school...

Rachel, I'll teach you

I'm local, but I don't have a stick shift car, can you borrow one?

I drove my first automatic 5 years ago when I came to the states, before then it was all sticks.

If you find a great stick shift car

I can teach you to drive it in half a day. In England you have to take about 50 lessons before you have a chance of passing your test so I have PLENTY of experience in teaching someone how to drive a manual transmission car, from my own lessons.
