Tragedy for a Dog lover.

I know there are some Dog lovers here and some very caring people so I figured I would post this up. As some of you might know, My girlfriend and I have been working recently fostering puppies. The email below is directly from the woman we work with. She runs a rescue organization out of her home with the help of foster homes and donations. Meg Works very closely with her best friend who also runs a shelter out of home. Together they find homes for sometimes as many as 50 dogs a mounth that would otherwise be euthenized down south. Her friend Melissa's house burnt down over the weekend and she lost everything as you can see below. I am sending this out to as many people as possible to try and help in any way they can. Any little bit could help. Even if it means just forwarding on to somebody who might want to help out and not donating yourself.

Thanks,
Randy

Hi everyone,

I'm writing with a sad heart to let you know that my best friend's home burnt to the ground late Friday night. Some of you may have met her with our rescue work. Melissa Donaldson ran "I Believe... Dog Rescue" in Madison NH which is between Osippee and Conway. We worked closely together and often split litters of puppies to adopt. Melissa arrived home about 10:30 p.m. after meeting me for dinner to find fire trucks blocking her street and her home totally engulfed in flames. The whole structure was destroyed. Sadly, Melissa lost four of her personal dogs and 11 foster dogs and puppies in the fire.

Melissa is safe and currently living with her family nearby. Mentally she is devastated. Upon receiving a frantic phone call, I immediately drove to NH to be with her and spent the weekend consoling her and trying to help her keep going. She is questioning the good rescue work she's done in the past and feeling guilty for not being home and able to save her animals. The fire marshall is investigating the fire but currently they believe wiring from a dishwasher may be to blame. They may never know. They did tell me that her animals died of smoke inhalation, which causes them to fall asleep. It was a little consoling to know they didn't suffer long, but just knowing they were "safe" inside their crates and how scared they must have felt brings tears to my eyes.

The property Melissa's home was on is owned by her dad. Her home was self-built by her brother and there was no mortgage on the home. Unfortunately, Melissa did not carry insurance. Everything was lost - personal items, computer and printer, rescue records and files, digital camera, food, toys, crates, collars and leashes, as well as all of Melissa's personal items - clothes, shoes, contact lenses, etc. Some clothing has been purchased as well as personal care items. Below is a link to a news article and video.

There is at least one account set up to take donations to help Melissa get back on her feet and continue her rescue work. The address is noted in the news article. If anyone has ideas and the energy for organizing any fundraising events for Melissa and I Believe... Dog Rescue, please feel free to help. Her rescue is on Petfinder and is registered with the state of NH as a not-for-profit. She has a tax ID # for that.

Melissa and I are scheduled to rescue some puppies that will be arriving late Friday. Melissa will be able to take two to foster at her parent's home. If anyone is able to short-term foster, PLEASE let me know ASAP so that we can make sure we'll be able to take all we've committed to. We want to continue, and Melissa NEEDS to continue. Her life is so rescue dog oriented that her mental health depends on it, and the dogs we're rescuing are depending on us. Please help by donating to help Melissa. Any amount will help - even $5.00. And if you're able to help foster a puppy or two or three, please contact me to let me know.

Jesus Bloody Mary Christ thats awful. I can't even think about it.

This exact scenario is something I fear everytime I pull onto my street going home.

Thoughts are with her and her late puppies.
