The next time I spend a week in Canada, I'll be sure to know some of the French language

Besides having a great time, eating like kings and a good night out , we came home as certified mast climbing platform operators/installers (Fraco). Not bad for spending a total of $35 out of my pocket

Luckily my girlfriend was born in Canada and English is actually her second language, although you'd never know it since she learned English when she was like 6... comes in handy in Canada and when we went to France..

People I have known coming from Quebec/Canada to live in the US at such a young age don't remember much of their french...unless their parents were speaking french to them at home. We speak french to our daughters in the house, so they are bilingual french/english. But they actually speak a LOT of english in between them.

Both her parents speak French to her when they call her and/or I am not around. Her mom has a really heavy French accent and is somewhat hard for me to understand, but her dad's accent is not bad. Her sister is in the same boat as her, she doesn't have any accent and they NEVER speak french to each other, except when we are with her family. Most of her immediate family doesn't speak any english at all, so going to family things in Canada is always a blast for me and her brother law, it basically involves us getting drunk together.

She says that when she doesn't speak it that often it takes her a bit to get back into the groove but if shes with her family after 10 or 15 minutes she starts thinking in French again and has no problem.

I really have to get back into French, 4 years of High school french and I live this close to Canada, My grandfather spoke it... When I go to Canada I try to do the best I can but always ask if they speak english (in french) even though I know most do.

My wife on the other hand doesn't even try, she just goes up and talks to them in english. I think it is nicer if you at least try to speak the nations language. Heck If I can learn Arabic she can try French.

I can take a free class through the Army too... What am I waitng for...?

Some do speek english so it's not so bad, I do remember a fine young lady saying at the 10/35 (that's what the locals called it, not sure the real name) "you touch here and here"

LOL....usually when the locals in Montreal call a stripjoint (male or female strippers) by a number, it's the door number of the club. "you touch here and here"... Are you aware that the female strippers allow female customers (usually) to touch in MANY more places than they would allow male customers? They will also often "forget" that the song is over and will keep on dancing for a female customer for a second song without charging her. Don't ask me how I know... Guess it's because guys sucks.

I lived in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu on the south shore of Montreal Island for a year, was in College for Interior Design. It was LOTS of fun, cross the bridge only 15 minutes away.

Ahhh, I got it now...the club was on rt 10 just off highway 35. Strip clubs are very different there than here...no dollar bills in the string? It all made sence I guess with single dollars being coins...you'd have to put the coin in the slot I guess?

Route 10 off of highway 35? So you were not on the island I think this is close to St-Hubert city and Champlain bridge? You basically get to route 10 after the Derby borders after crossing Vermont on I-91...Montreal is only about an hour after the borders...
