Need ideas...

I'm thinking of starting my own pet sitter business, there is none in my area, and I've done some research and found that many people are telling me they would use that kind of service if it was available to them, since they hate to bring their pet to the kennel while away from home.

I'd be going to people's home, not the pets coming to mine. I've been thinking of some names for my business, but I'd like to hear your ideas. I'd like to stay away from the word "critter", and I'd like to have a name that doesn't point to only dogs or/and cats care...because I'd like to offer my services to most pets (dogs, cats, reptiles, birds and fish).

I want something fun, and simple.

So far what I've come up with, and the words "Pet Sitter Services" would also appear under the name, tell me which one sounds best, or share your idea of a name:

MyPetBuddies
Paws, Feathers and Fins (Pet Sitter Services)
The Pampered Pets
AtHomePets
HomeBuddies
Pets"R"Home
HomePamperedPets

etc... (thanks in advance!)

Try to focus on something that emphasizes the fact that the pets stay at their own home. That'll probably be your biggest selling point.

I like the idea of using something letting people know that I go to their house. Those are good ideas Jane.

Also made me think of "Pet Sitters on the Move" but it's a bit too long.

How about "Mobile Pet Nanny" ...

Home Sweet Home, Pet Care Services

All Critters, Pet Care Services (emphasize that I care for all kinds of pets) I like this one...short and sweet.

*sigh*....too many. How do you come up with THE ONE, that wll be eye catchy yet simple and easy to remember...

Thanks everyone!

Someone just gave me a GREAT idea. I want to make a full time time job to make decent money. She told me since I am thinking of offering more than just pet sitting, but also home sitting, etc. she came up with this:

At Home Concierge,
Home and Pet Sitting Services

It was a home based daycare, I've done it for three years... Never again. The kids were not really the problem, but many parents were. In Springfield, I had to take in many low income families, a lot of single moms, it was a nightmare trying to get paid by many, and some of them were just completly irresponsible and and unrespectful of the daycare business. Parents bringing their kids on cold winter days without wearing socks and SHORTS. The excuse they were giving me? "I didn't have time to do laundry and couldn't find clean socks". Others were bringing their kids to my home at 7:30am with DONUTS in their hands, filthy clothes, and eating it in front of the other kids. You know...just ridiculous stuff like that. You'd think PARENTS would use some more COMMON sense when it comes to their children. :crybaby: I always kept clean clothes of different sizes in a closet, just for cases like these. Once I remember I had to give a bath to a little boy because he was so dirty, it was making me sick. I bathe him, changed him in clean clothes and he was much more happy after that (me too!).

I always wanted to be a vet for the longest time...I LOVE animals and be around them. They're much easier to deal with than humans...

Still looking...but not as actively as I wished. I'm so busy with the two houses, I'll need to start painting the old one soon so we can put it up for sale in the coming weeks.

I hear ya on this one V. I did the childcare thing myself years ago, nothing like a childcare center but just like 2-3 kids at a time. Some of the stuff that the kids (and mostly the parents) do still boggles my mind.

I had this one little boy that I can remember in particular, his name was Paul. Hes like 10 now and I still see him when I am out and about sometimes.

His mother would always drop him off at the ass crack of dawn in dirty pj's, dirty pamper, dirty face, etc. We was only like 1 1/2-2 at the time. At first I thought this was deplorable, I couldn't deal with it, etc. but as time went on he was at my place as much as like 50 hours a week.

So I took him in like he was my own, had his own clothes stash at my place, got his daily bath at my place, did his laundry there, had clean pampers and what not there in case his mother didn't provide them. He went everywhere with me and my little one, his own car seat in my vehicle, etc. It was like having another kid, but I turned him over to his mother at night.

Sometimes I wonder how I was able to do it and think I was stupid for letting someone take advantage of me the way that his mother did but then I try to find the positive in it and remind myself that I could have made a difference in a kids life.

But I could never do it again. I couldn't handle it emotionally or physically.

YOU DID make a difference in his life. At least he was well taken care of while at your place and got the care he needed!! Too bad the mom couldn't do that with her OWN child.

I think I ended up having him in my care for over a year or so, sometimes on the weekends as well and I know that whenever I see him he still remembers who I am so I know that means something.

It was hard at first because Mark couldn't get over how bad it was, wanted me to just turn the kid away knowing it wasn't my responsibility but I persisted and soon enough, he had taken him under his wing and in the evening when he got from work he would hang out with him, play with him, etc. too.

Sorry guys....I hate dilemmas so the best way is to ask people...lol

Which sounds best?

"The Pet Keeper" or "The Pets Keepers" ?

This is most likely going to be the logo I'm going to purchase for my biz. I'd like to somehow add a small lizzard and a bird perch on a pole somewhere in there...or maybe not. (it does look cute just the way it is) so if anyone has mad skillz with photoshop or something...let me know...I have 2 other cute images of a bird and a lizzzard.....

I just reigstered with Professional United Pet Sitters and got FULL coverage for my business from an insurance company. I'll be covered to the teeths, and if I hire employees or sub-contractors down the road, they will be automatically covered. My husband and kids are covered. I have pets and liability coverage, house sitting only coverage, in my home care covered, pet taxi, etc. etc.

Friends of mine hired a pet sitter for their new dog. Wait a minute, were in the Springfield vicinity... what do you mean there's none in the area? Actually, there isn't many licensed in the area. I know when my friend tried to get the one he has, he was put on a waiting list. Crazy business. Stupid expensive, but people pay it!

I wanna revize your slogan to "You buy em & leave em, we fry em & eat em"... shorter & makes more sense that way.

It was not me I can assure you that, I'm just starting with this. I got insured today by Mourer-Foster thru their Kennel Pro program. It cost me over $350.00 for a year of full coverage. They insure kennels, doggie daycares, grooming salons, and pet sitters businesses. I'm also already registered thru the Professional United Pet Sitters organization, and will be soon a member of PSI (Pet Sitters International), it's a yearly costly membership but they offer training and certification. I'm also taking a CPR and First Aid class for pets and get certified thru the American Red Cross.

And expensive? $15.00 for half hour of service including travel time and gas is not that much for some piece of mind and a happy pet. For some people, dogs/cats are like children to them...they pay because they think it's worth it and best for their dog, rather than a kennel.

$15 is perfectly reasonable, even cheap if I dare say so.

If I were to leave for more than a night, I would gladly pay that to have someone come check on the cat, make sure he had food and water, etc.

As you've said, its a small price to pay for peace of mind.
