Comcastic!!!! - rant...


This has to be an acronym for horrible...

First off - they're the only offering for cable in my area, they bought out Adelphia a few months ago. Identical service - suddenly higher rates.

I needed to get a high speed internet account installed at my house (commercial - fixed IP). I fill out the application, let them know I'll be out of town for two weeks, need to schedule the install. Yup - they tell me they'll be there three days after I leave... I e-mail them because there's no answer at their phone number. It doesn't even go to an automated response - it just rings 4 times and hangs up.

The install gets rescheduled and goes OK - luckily I'm working from home , so I can be there for the 8:00 AM and 2:00 PM window...

The first bill shows up - I'm getting billed on my personal account for high speed access, and a modem charge... Then the commercial bill shows up - with charges for high speed access and a modem... The phones are working this time when I call... 20 minutes on hold to have them tell me they don't install commercial accounts in houses... We go around and around - I finally get them to accept that I have two accounts coming into my house, and that the bill for my personal one needs to be adjusted... I hang up the phone and think all is well.

They cancel my e-mail account... My cable TV doesn't work... Back on the phone... I get the e-mail account and cable TV re-activated that afternoon. Except a bunch of the cable channels aren't showing up. Back on the phone - they don't see anything wrong on their end - they'll send a technician out between 8:00 AM and noon the next day.

The technician shows up and immediatly starts trying to sell a re-wire for my house - because these boxes never fail...

Buddy - it worked yesterday...
Well, I don't trust the cable coming to the TV, who installed it?
I did, when I built the house.
Oh, it's probably wired wrong then. Coax can be tricky.
Ummm buddy - the cabling is fine... (I'm ready to throw him out of my house at this point - my last job was designing and installing coax communication systems for medical and military applications)

We go down in the basement, he looks at the structured cabling I put in, "Wow, nice job..."

Amazingly he hooks his tester up to the cable at the TV the signal is there... He changes the box out, it works, and then tries to sell me a monthly service fee to cover the cable in the building. Different channels are missing... WTF!!!

20 minutes on hold this morning (thank God for speaker phones - so I can still work). They're looking into the problem and are supposed to call me back... They can't find any history of me having access to the channel lineup...

I've had my own issues with Comcast. I tried moving my service from my old location to my new house and ran into all sorts of problems. Luckily for me the guy who showed up to do the install went above and beyond what his job description called for and solved all my issues by making a few phone calls. He even gave me 500ft of RG-11 because I helped him pull wire.
