Thanks for the compliments Mark.
I've had a lot of help from a couple close friends but I guess you can say I did the majority of this myself. Almost every weekend and almost every day after work was spent working on it. I still can't even beleive I'm very close to being done. February 28 2007 was the date I closed on the land purchase, and I'm hoping to have a complete house and a final mortgage closing by that same date

Re: Almost ready for wood!!!

Well I think I've had my hands in a little of everything as far as projects go this past weekend.
The kitchen cabinet doors are complete with 4 coats of clear and all the hardware installed. I'm very happy with the overall look, haven't spent a bunch of time using it yet so I can't say much about the function...but it seems to work ok Did that make any sence?

I sanded and painted the hatch to the roof area finally.

Lets see, I somehow found some time to start servicing my KTM. I finally fixxed the tweaked subframe and replaced the rear plastic section. The bike needs quite a bit to get ready for riding season, chain+sprockets for both dirt and Motard wheels, some fresh knobbies, and a new pilot power for the front. Of course it still needs the usual oil+2 filters changed.

Spent a couple hours Sunday riding and burning in some new trails with the Raptor

Also cut some more trails, a little on my side and some time making a connector trail on Todds side. It's amazing how much time it takes to make trails.

And this afternoon I spent a few hours outside starting 2 new projects out in the yard. First one is to replant trees cut by my neighbors before I bought the land, I probably replanted 30 pine trees on the property line to create a natural wall someday.
I also spent a hour or 2 rebuilding one of the old stone walls in my backyard. I shouldn't have spent time doing this, but I felt like doing something different.
I'll update when the weather cooperates with some pictures

Re: Almost ready for wood!!!

Final bank inspection of the house was today, I'm good to go I still do have quite a few little things that need to get done, but I'm not under and pressure to get them done...and it's nothing that's an eye sore.

Building a storage shed is next on the hit list. I wish I could keep that simple...but I'm sure some may have guessed, it won't be I need room for all my yard care tools, 4x4 plow/work quad, the R1, KTM, 4-5 cord of firewood, and a possible Kubota or John Deere compact tractor storage area.

Somewhere in the mix I need to set up a workshop area in the basement

It's not going to be huge, I was thinking 10x12 or 12x12 of inside storage..plus a full loft, and a 8x12 lean-2 (just a roof) on both sides. One side for firewood, and one side for Deere or Kubota storage. I drew up a quick scetch to give to the town hall for the permit. It's not to any scale and the lighter lines on the roof are for possible dormers, not sure if I'm going to build those or not though. The loft storage will come in very handy if they are added..

Mark,

That looks very sensible. A lot of times there is a limit of base size for which you don't need to pull permits and petition and everything. At my folks' house the limit was 10x10, so I built them a 10x10 shed. Saves a decent amount of headache, you might want to check out your local regulations.

Re: Almost ready for wood!!!

Any outbuilding needs a permit around here from what I've read/heard.
It shouldn't be a big deal as long as I'm within the setbacks of the property and the ceptic system...which I know isn't an issue.
Snow and cold weather has put a hold on this project

Re: Almost ready for wood!!!

Well, it's been a while!! After 5 months of living here, I can say that other than the house looking a bit more lived in, no progress has been made on the house itself. There's still a long to-do list but I'm thinking that will all wait for winter.
I had the day off today and just kinda hung around the house doing nothing, havn't been feeling 100% the past week or 2

Anyway, just figured i'd snap a few pictures of how things look today...

I've always had a green thumb for growing stuff...this peice lilly had 3 leaves on it when it was given to me in December...

Not much has changed in the living room, Nitro is still happy near the window

My welcomed dog..

My grandmother got me this picture as a house warming, not sure what she was trying to tell me but I figured the bathroom was the best place for it

Front of the house, obviously I still haven't painted the porch railings

Slowly picking away at the landscaping. I need to get some mulch but want to wait until I'm done with the stone edging, for now I just put straw down to keep the rain splash off the plants

Left side, planted a dogwood tree

My backyard

A half assed firepit that doesn't get used as often as it should..

This toy has been used as much in the past 5 months than it has sence it was new

I planted a Cherry tree, well actually 2 of them...
I'm slowly going to add more fruit trees, 2 apples, 2 pears, 2 plums...and a grape vine.

Here's the shed I built, though that has it's own thread somewhere. Not much progress on that as well and there's still a few days worth of work to be done to complete it.

Things are filling in fast, it won't be long before I have total privacy from the road...though I'm standing at least 100 feet from the road taking this picture.

And even the trails are starting to show signs of use

So far so good with everything. I love the area, have awesome neighbors, and pretty much nothing but woods/forest around me. I can't even describe how quiet and peicefull it is.

I've had no issues at all with the well...which was something I was a bit worried about. I checked it a few weeks ago and it was full. It's amazing how that hydrofracturing works!!

I do need to find someone to charge the AC system though? I found out the other day that the HVAC company never charged the system. I'm glad I never sent him his final payment, and I'm sure he thinks I'll be calling him!!

I haven't mentioned much but I have been on and off the medication almost all winter and spring. I've been off it now for 2 1/2 weeks and visiting a different doctor. I'm waiting for results from bloodwork, though there is a iron level issue that the doctors "thinks" is causing me problems

I'd love to build my own place someday. It's certainly something I would consider.

Nice bachelor pad to have to yourself! I live alone as well and love it. Everything is the way I want it. Perfect.

Now hurry up so we can come have a party there

Re: Almost ready for wood!!!

So it's been almost 6 months sence I've done anything to the house. Everyone said once I moved in, all progress would stop...and boy did it stop quick!!

I got up Saturday morning full of energy but I knew it was going to be baking hot out so I didn't want to do to much. A few things have been bothering me that I never finished...and because I never finished them, have caused even more work.
1st up was to paint my front porch/entry. I basically just threw the thing together at the time and walked away from it. Some of the wood was pre-primed, some pressure treated, and some exposed redwood from cuts that I never primed. The pressure treated stuff warped and splintered..and had some pretty big cracks, the primer on the pre primed wood was chaulky and the exposed redwood was mildew/black.
Lots of sanding, priming and chaulking and I was able to start painting by 2pm yesterday. I got 1 coat on everything yesterday, and was able to second coat everything today. I'm not 100% happy so I'm going to add another coat tomorrow after work. Oh and I'm still missing a peice of siding above the door...it gets mentioned almost every time I have company

Once I'm done with the front entry, there are a few other spots on the house trim that need another coat of paint...easy stuff and should only take a couple hours.

2nd project is the deck in the back. I was supposed to seal/stain it as soon as the wood dried and seasoned a bit... well it's dry alright!! I need to powerwash it, replace a couple boards and put 2 or 3 coats of quality stain on it. At this point, I'm even thinking about shit canning the wood railing and replace it with white vinyl/composite. We'll see though.

3rd project is to paint the basement doors. I put commercial steel doors in and never painted them and a couple spots have a small bit of rust on them. I've got the paint and have had it sence last October..it's just one of those things....

That will complete the outside 100%.
The list for the inside is quite a bit longer but I'm saving that for when the snow flies

Awesome Mark! Front porch looks great.

A thought for the deck in the back... you ever think about building a grill are into it? Like countertop, some storage cabinets, cabinet for the propane tank, and (obviously) an area for the grill itself?

Thanks for the compliment

The only thing I really put some thought into as far as the deck goes is making a bench/railing around it. It's a code violation though so at the time, I didn't want any problems getting the inspections.
I really don't want anything built in for the grill, it's only 14'x16' and I don't want to have anything in a fixxed possition.
"If" I change the railings, I'm going to lower the top rail hight. Yeah it's against building code but I hate sitting on the deck and looking out in the yard with a railing at eye level
