Almost ready for wood!!!

Thanks for the compliments

I'm motivated for 2 important reasons, a land loan that goes adjustable in 11 months, and I've been living in a dark basement for the past 10 years, I need to get out .... and I already miss riding (dirt) every weekend.

Black, thank you for the offer, I had forgotten you mentioned that and a extra hand would have been very helpful last weekend. I'll keep it in mind for the future..or unless you're ever board again, give me a call.

I got the front wall built tonight, now I have to stand them both up so I can build the other 2. Not bad for a few hours after work

Looks good - Great time of year to be building too - not too hot, and the mosquitos haven't come out yet.

No mosquitos yet but the friggen little black flies are brutal.
Now if the temps will stay in this range until after I have the roof shingled, I'll be pretty happy.

Evan, I've got all the tools so that's not a problem. It'll be a fun ride for you if you take the Motard I'll PM you directions and give you a call.

I've got 2 walls up and the other 2 ready to stand. By this time tomorrow, I should be ready to start framing the second floor. I may start that Friday evening...or set up the scaffolding around the house. Should start to look like something by the end of the weekend

Starting to get tired of coming home at 9pm every night...but it's all for a good reason

I've met with my lumber yard salesman a few times over the past couple days, I placed my window order and picked out the siding I want from a sample he gave me. I went with the Anderson tilt wash 400 series with the grills between the glass, Anderson 400 series slider also with the grills between the glass. I'm also going with the cedar impression vinyl siding in barn red. This stuff is unreal and has a lifetime guarantee, and that includes fading. All vinyl siding I have ever worked with is thin and cheezy looking...this stuff is 1/8" thick!!!

A couple center walls and a LVL floor support and I'm ready for the second floor

Thanks
I'll give you a call tomorrow, I saw you're name came up on my phone today but i forgot to call you back.

Had another great weekend and a big thanks yet again to Bob M for all the help. I got there about 1pm on Friday afternoon and just got home about an hour or so ago, camped out the whole weekend
We got the second floor framed and decked Saturday in just over 10 hours...figured we'd have an easy day Sunday as all I wanted to do was build the 2 gables, stand them and place the ridge beam in. The bulk of the work was cutting and I couldn't cut fast enough with 2 guys nailing. I forgot just how much work building a gable was...then add in the 1 foot overhang...and all the finish trim. We didn't finish them...well I did stay by myself and had them both completed by 7:30pm tonight. Tomorrow afternoon all we have to do is stand them and set in the ridge. I have a few pictures, maybe I'll post them up later or tomorrow

Thanks again for the help this afternoon Bob, even though it was quite a circus show with 2 leaders and 3 clowns. At least the hardest part is now done...those gables were heavier than i thought they would be.

I got busy again and added some more braces just in case it gets windy overnight, I'd hate to lose those after all that work. I also started setting up the scaffolding but I ran out of daylight for that.
I also couldn't get my camera out fast enough for the 2 doe that walked across my yard!!

Well, it's starting to look like a house now I guess?

Wow man it's coming along nicely.... I remember your post not too long ago about buying that piece of property, and the progress you've made in that time is incredible.

Looks good. All the shots through this entire thread - not a bit of garbage anywhere on the site. Building material in neat piles. Good job.

Pray for a calm day when you go to put the sheeting on the roof. Do you need a CoO before you can move in?

Almost ready for wood!!!

Thanks for all the compliments

I used a vacation day today and put in a nice 13 hour day by myself, it was kinda relaxing.

SSearch, the site is a little more messy after today, I swept off the second floor scraps to the ground and din't have time to pick them up. I've been burning the wood and taking the trash to work once I fill a bag, so far it's worked pretty well.
I need working smoke detectors, a working bathroom and kitchen and I could move in without a CO. Once I finish the first floor, I'm going for the CO anyways...after I move in, I'll finish the second floor to make the bank happy.

Bryan, once I get the septic installed and the well line, feel free to come down and landscape it. I could use some ideas...and I don't like cutting grass After this project, I want my riding life back..not cutting grass every weekend

Thanks again for the compliments, I'll post up a couple pictures of todays work in a few minutes...

I started the day setting up some scaffolding so I could nail off the plywood from the gable to the wall studs below. The scaffolding is going to stay pretty much until the outside is done.

I got one of the front dormer walls built and stood up today, the other is half built, I lost ambition on that one. Instead of finishing it, I started to build the rear dormer wall and got that half done before I quit for the day. I'll complete them both tomorrow after work and hopefully have time to start cutting roof rafters so we can stand the walls and install a few rafters for Thursday.

It looks kinda funny standing there by itself, you'll get a beter idea what it's going to look like by the weekend

Almost ready for wood!!!

I forgot to bring my camera today Big thanks again to Bob for stopping by to help me stand up the rear dormer wall...that sucker was heavy!!!
I was able to cut and install 3 of the rear dormer roof rafters and 3 of the long main roof rafters. i figured with the thunderstorms coming tomorrow, it'd be a good idea to tie things together. I spent the rest of the evening cleaning up the mess from tha past couple days...time for another camp fire to get rid of the scraps
I think by the end of next weekend (5/19-5/20) I'll be water tight with the roof. The roof is so chopped up with dormers and valleys, I'm going to skip the tar paper and cover it 100% with ice and water guard...a little more expensive but I won't have to hurry to shingle it..and it won't blow off if we get a storm.

Last big lumber order for the framing is coming Saturday morning...good news on the budget as I am quite a bit under budget for the rough frame. Maybe I'll cellebrate with a new shift red R6

Have fun with the ice guard. I watched a guy just about glue himself to the roof with that stuff. The benefit is it's easier to get traction on when shingling...

Well I just got home from another great day. Todd stopped by and gave me a hand pretty much all day and we got quite a bit done at a somewhat relaxed pace.
This house sure is making good use of my roof cutting skills that I haven't used in over 10 years

Here's a few pictures from today...the house isn't looking so little anymore
