Almost ready for wood!!!

I'm getting kinda burnt out on this project...I'm taking a week or so off once the roof is somewhat water tight.
These new roof blocking codes are driving me nuts and make it take forever to plywood the roof

As of 8pm today, this is what I have done

Thanks for the offer Friday is the day I usually take off from working on it though, plus I don't get home from work until 4pm. I will be there all weekend though, even camping there Saturday night and having a few beers and a fire

Man, that is looking great Mark.
Good luck with it. Sure looks like you are moving along quite well for the lack of hands on the job.

I know I'm ahead of your scedule , but what are you doing for Flooring? We have a Flooring company as well as commercial construction. Maybe I can get one of the guys to give you a deal on flooring and installation. He could do it on the side to save you a little green.

Hardwood Oak in the livingroom, dining room, kitchen and bedroom on the first floor, ceramic tile in both bathrooms, oak stair treads, hardwood oak landing on second floor and probably carpet in the 2 second floor bedrooms.
If one of your guys wants to give me a price, I'm open for quotes on that as well. I have no problems installing hardwoods and tile myself, I'm actually pretty good at both of them, it'll be a time saver more than anything as long as the quality passes my fussy standards

Evan, PM sent.
I rode my Motard up there last Sunday from my house, it was fun on some of the backroads and sure put a smile on my face. I also tried to take it around my property line trail...just a little to rocky and rooty for pilot powers so I only made it about 1/4 mile in before turning around.

Looks like some rain moving in..probably a good thing because I need a little rest. I made a lot of rookie mistakes yesterday and today..just not thinking ahead. The ridge settled as I forgot to put the center support in..I had it cut and it was just sitting there on the floor..oh well. I spent most of this afternoon correcting that, it bowed the back wall out 1" in the center. A couple string lines and a jack and it was back to being perfect. I hate jumping around but I need to stop working on the front and at least plywood the rear dormer roof to stiffen it up some. That I could use some help with...as I forgot to pass the plywood from the front to the inside before I started plywooding the front..oops

Jeezus..with the progress I figured you were working from 6-10 am at the job and taking the rest of the time at the homefront, dayum man.

Totally understood on the Friday thing - it's probably just as well for you . The rest of the weekend (I'm finally not oncall for a change) and the girl has it off as well - so I promised I'd stick around the homefront, I shouldda been more clear . I will have to make a trip down there at some point to check this place out before the housewarming party, just so I can see how it's supposed to be done, then I can come home and panic some more

Looks good.

Before you close the walls in with insulation and drywall- heres some free advice if you haven't thought of them already.

- Make a couple of straight runs from the basement to the attic with 2" PVC pipe. This makes it simple to run wires or whatever after the house is done. Don't forget to leave a pull string through each pipe.

- Home run all the wiring you think you will ever need, and then some. Every room in my house has a run of four lead speaker wire, 2 runs of cat 5, and a run of coax to it. Run it all back to a central location (and label it) in the basement so you can put in a control panel. I even went to the extent of running the cat 5 and speaker wire to the master bath - I like music through the house, so I have in-wall speakers in there.

I'll admit that in a normal work week, I can do that sometimes...however it seems sence I started framing this house, we have been crazy busy at work setting up the mast climbers we just got into. I'm boarderline having to work overtime....I can see it coming shortly.

As you can tell by the time, I'm taking a break from it today. Figured with the thunderstorms coming, it'd be a good day to come home and give the Raptor and KTM a oil change and lube..probably the only time I'll have to do it this season

Thanks for stopping by yesterday Evan, it was good to see you again. That tardy tard sure looked and sounded cool...for a non Yamaha/KTM Once I get settled in, I'll scope out a nice Tard loop..I know it's there

I thought I was screwed with all the rain and was going to miss a day or 2 of work on the house...but wait a minute, I can still set up all the scaffolding in the rain!! Yeah, I felt like a tool today but I had to do it. I put my rain gear on and set up the scaffolding on the back side of the house so I could do the trim work and plywood the roof this weekend. The sucky part about this weekend (which I new was coming anyways) is I have to work tomorrow. The OT is going to be nice but the time is more valuable to me right now, oh well, I'll still have it somewhat water tight by mid week next week..just in time for a vacation

Thanks for having me! That trail is definitely cool... I cant wait to see the finished product.. I will Definitely be using your framing skills in some way, for my dormer... Impressive, how much you have accomplished...

When your ready for cabinets, let me know.. I'll talk to my supplier, see if we can get you a decent deal.

Thanks MnM

Another long day today..unfortunatly I forgot my camera at home though.
I figured I was in for a wet day but it held off until about 6pm when a line of thunderstorms came in. Got quite a bit done again today, 85% of the rear dormer and 1 side roof has the plywood on now, trim and drip edge are also mostly done on the back.
If I didn't have to work Saturday, I probably would have had the roof water tight by now..oh well. I should still be water tight by Tuesday evening, Wednesday at the latest.

One thing I did learn with all this rain the past couple days and everything getting soaked..I shouldn't have waisted the extra money for the plywood on the roof, I shoulda went with the OSB. Plywood nowadays is garbage, buckles, delaminates and swells quite a bit when it gets wet. That OSB doesn't move at all when it's wet. I didn't want to use OSB on anything when I started this project, now I'm glad I used it where I did..plus it's 1/3 the cost of plywood

I thought OSB can swell significantly around its edges when wet especially an edge that has been cut. Or is it easier to properly seal OSB?

Mark, I guess the floor installers we use dont do wood floors. I think they are just lazy asses myself. I got "I'm too busy" and "Oh I dont do wood."

I tried. They dont.

Wow, that's an eye opening statement. I thought OSB just turned to a mushy mess when it rained, that's why people still used plywood. Isn't plywood still required for structural stuff, like corner bracing near big openings (like a garage door)?

There's no requirement for plywood around here for the structure, as long as it's approved for the distance the studs are apart. The only code I found for the structure that has to do with plywood or OSB is 4' in from every corner of the house has to have blocking on the plywood/osb joints..along with a double stud at the 4' mark. Same thing for the roof..though I'm not 100% sure it's required in the wind zone (100mph) I'm located in? Either way, I did put all the blocking in the roof, and double hurricane clipped the roof rafters.

It's getting there...

I did actually stay and finish the corner

Thanks again for the compliments

Doug, you of all people know it's built like a rock...a little overkill on some things but I'd rather it be that way.

I was able to get out of work a little early today and I ended up getting more done than I had planned. The roof on the back it all water tight now and ready for shingles. I also had time to finish all the roof plywood so all I have to do tomorrow is add a couple peices of trim to the dormers, drip edge and ice & water the whole front. Once that is done, I'm taking a week off from working on it. The roof shingles and windows are being delivered a week from Saturday and I could use some time away before I start busting my ass shingling a 12 pitch roof

Speaking of next weekend (May 2,3) I've got a lot of scraps to burn so who wants to come drink all night with me while I burn this stuff
