I burnt everything I had left over last night I got very very very very very drunk

I had quite a bit of company today, neighbors, relatives and friends stopping by for 10-15 minutes at a time. It worked out great because I was moving a bit slow today anyways

Another couple days after work and I'll be done with the roof...

With the help of a friend from work, this section took about 3 hours..

I burnt it all, it's all gone now...well I started a new pile today though

Good thing I brought the Rappy with me, I found some time to do a lap around the trail..Fucker already grew in and it was like blazing a new trail

Night vision wasn't working on my camera, it's a good thing Todd stopped by to help me burn and drink

And today I worked on the front, I'd say I'm better than half way done on the front side..

Yes, it's free...and has already saved me more time and back breaking labor than I would if I had been working off a ladder or sidewall jacks

Speeking of ladders, no more ladder to the second floor, I cut the stair in today. It took a while and there's a ton of pensil marks on the stringers...I had completely forgotten how the figure out a residential stair case

You gonna put a ridge vent on that bad larry? Wait... no attic, right?

Looks good... decent weather for roofing... I did mine mid-July last summer... One of the hottest weekends. Drank about 2 1/2 gallons of water... took one piss.

I've always liked the roof styles of Capes. I built my little camp in Maine over 10 years ago, actually built it at my house and trailered it up in sections.
It's not to scale but it has all the same features, big overhangs, 12/12 roof, 2 front dormers, full rear dormer with the same step in on the sides.

My future garage and future storage shed at my new house will also have the same style roof.

Yes, I have ridge and soffit vents, I just didn't want to cut the shingles until I was ready to install it so I could keep it dry inside the house. There is also a small attic space..though I'm thinking about having an open ceiling in the bedrooms upstairs? May have to check with the engineer on that one, Doug?

Are you thinking of eliminating the collar ties? if so, how? Or are you thinking of leaving them exposed?

Also, Punjistick, whats up with that lumber?

Sorry. I'll take pics tomorrow. I've been really busy. Had a job interview this morning, then I had to run down to the cape for grad rehearsal.

Yes, eliminating them all together. I have a structural ridge (14" LVL) with 2 support posts in the center so the ridge span is only 12'-6"

hmmmmm? what would stop the roof from "folding" in? because you have a 14" lvl?... I only ask, because I want to eliminate the collar ties, when I do my dormer.. I need to gain as much headroom as possible up there..

If your roof rafters are properly fastened to the structural ridge, and the ridge is properly supported, it can't fold in. It basically acts as the same idea of a center beem in your house, only it's holding the roof and not the floor.

When I was pricing log cabins, they ended up being double the cost of a stick built house. For a 1,200 sqft log cabin, it was $50k just for a weather tight shell with me doing the building (it was double for them to errect it). Beleave it or not, I'll have less than $25k in this house from the foundation to full weather tight, finish roof, windows, doors and siding.

I got a killer price on a septic system install today, it was from a local guy that the realtor recomended. Lets just say if I take the savings from the highest price I got and add about $1500 to it, I can go buy a brand new shift red R6 Of course the reality is, that savings just upgraded my gravel driveway to the concrete driveway I want

Windows were delivered at 7:30am this morning Thanks to Todd and my father for helping me install them today in the pouring rain. I put the slider in myself after they left, don't mind the migshift tent over it. I still have 2 more windows to put in in the back.
