There is a garage planned in the near future, I just don't have the time for it now. I hardly have any bikes left anyways, the R7 as always will stay in the house, the KTM will be easy to get in and out of the basement, and the Rappy can stay in my trailer until I build a storage shed. If I can find a 4' wide door for the basement, I can get the Rappy in there as well..though I'm having trouble finding the door I want.
When I do build the garage (probably next spring), it is going to be attached to the house with a mudroom/breezeway.

I had a long day today, left for work at 6:30am and I just got home about a half hour ago. I spent some time on the phone getting a couple subs set up and next week looks to be a busy week. I've got the septic system and the well going in next week. I'm also going to see if the guy doing the septic can do some work to my driveway while he is there.
The septic guy needs some of the scaffolding down so I also have to get my ass in gear button up the work in those areas.
Today, I got the front entry built and ready for roof shingles, I'll finish that tomorrow after work and start on the back. It looks a little funny sticking out at this point but once the small deck is built, the support posts and rails are there, it should look pretty nice. Obviously it was just about dark when I took the picture so it came out kinda crappy...

I finally got the prices back for the heating/ac system..I know it's a crazy move $$$ but I'm going with the hydro-air system
The regular forced air system with ac was $10K, a dual zone forced air system was $11K (said they use a lot more energy $$) and the hydro-air is $14,600 and that includes hot water. It'll be 2 zones, one for the first floor, one for the second...the second floor will have it's own unit in the attick. He also said it'll be easy to tap into the system and add a third zone when I build the garage. Yeah, I'm paying a little more now but I think it'll pay for itself over time.
Also, I hired a mason yesterday to start building the chimney, they started that today and he thinks he'll be done by the end of Saturday. Double flue, one for the hydro air system and one for the woodstove going in the basement. Once that's done, I can complete the partitions inside and go for my framing inspection.

No new pictures as there are no real big changes from the last ones, hell I spent the afternoon today just cleaning and getting a scrap pile ready to burn tomorrow night

Good choice on the hydro air. You wont regret it at all.
It wont dry up the air and no ugly plumbing around all of your rooms.

Almost ready for wood!!!

Who turned on the heat this weekend? Talk about a motivation killer!!

I started to frame the walls on the second floor, I got the hallway, bathroom and most of the master bedroom framed. I still need to add the ceiling joists but I want to wait and see how much room I need for the hydro air unit that goes up there. I figured I could get most of the framing done in one day but I didn't even get close to that because of the heat

Today I needed a change of pace so I brought the chainsaw with me and cut up a few trees that I never got to when I cleared the lot, I got sick of looking at them. Now I just need to have another big camp fire to get rid of the brush
Todd stopped by on Saturday and felt like playing on the tractor so he went around picking up all the little piles of fire wood scattered everywhere and made one big pile. Also he moved some of the wood out of the way for the septic system being installed this week. Thanks for that Todd

Once the chimney is built, I'll cap the main roof and be done with it

I had to take down half the scaffolding for the septic system, once that's done, I have to build all that back up

The mason was there at 7am Saturday morning dropping off the blocks for the cimney

Stairs to the second floor, no squeeks in those!! Every contact point with wood is glued, then I'll screw the oak treads and risers on from the underside for a nice clean finish

A lot of lumber in that little area, I got some work ahead of me

So it's been a little over a week sence my last post, not a huge amount of work done on my part I have most of the second floor partitions built, a couple closets, all the ceiling joists and some more blocking.
I also finally installed the lally columns in the basement today.

There has been some action with other people though. The shit tank was installed today..yet another change in plans due to the ledge... I have to build up the yard a little more than I wanted to.

The mason... This guy has lied to me from day one promissing this and that!! Two weeks and he's only to the second floor. I even had to get the building inspector out there to address his poor workmanship problems. Ya gotta love it when a friend recomends someone and speaks highly of them...and they fall on their face

It's kinda hard to see in the picture, but he wasn't cleaning the left over flue mortor off the flue liners, they are supposed to be free of any left over crap and smooth. He did get it cleaned with a brush and rebar...

The basement, didn't even put sand in the cleanout so it would be easy to remove all the motor that falls in

And the well drillers showed up today. As with every other thing in the ground on this lot, ledge!! He drilled 2' and hit ledge, it was solid for the 220' they drilled so far. I'm guessing they have a lot more to go because he also said he hasn't hit any measurable water so far...great

And why didn't they put in a ledge tank (longer, not as deep) ?

You can't use them anymore in RI. Why, I have no idea but I did ask about them after Bob mentioned it a while ago

their talking about outlawing one particular ledge tank here in NH, only cause it's too shallow and is very suseptible to freezing in the North Country, we haven't had problems with ledge tanks in southern & central NH

most of the systems I design utilize two smaller tanks in series or a compartmentized tank

I'm taking a week off after this week, I'ma gonna go drinking

The well is all drilled, all 400' of it. We got 15 gallons in 10 minutes today before he even cleaned it, that's triple the state minimum. I should get 2 gallons a minute when all is said and done and have a at least 350' of storage capacity at 1.5 gallon per foot. Plenty of water

Mason is still a bum and not finnished..wasn't happy that he's gotta wait another week to get paid..

Septic is slow going because of the state inspections, it should be done when I get back from vacation

I will definatly have a BBQ this fall once the house is somewhat done, keep an eye on your PM's when the time comes

Ahhh, the little vaction felt pretty good but I'm back at it now. One thing that kinda made my day yesterday was the neighbor to the right came walking over and introduced themselves. They seemed real nice and they appoligized for cutting down the trees on my land. They are planning on moving in by mid September..though I have my doubts.

The mason finished the chimney, it looks good from a distance but I'm not real happy with his work. I gave him a work platform to work off of on the roof and asked several times to do whatever it took to protect the new roof, I even saved a bunch of cardboard from the windows and told him to use them to keep the mortor off the roof. I wasn't happy to come back and see globs of mortor all over the roof I also don't like the cap, it's got cracks in it because he didn't cover it and it dried to fast, the top is flat, and the flue liners are even with the top? I don't know what he's gonna do about it, but he aint getting a dime until it's fixxed!

Today, I finished the roof and installed the ridge vents, I'm glad i'm done lugging shingles and burning my knees and hands...roofs suck!
I also got most of the first floor framing done today, all I have to do is ferring strap the ceiling and I'm done.

There's my 400' deep hole. I gotta call the well driller tomorrow and see what's up, he got 15 gallons in 10 minutes when I was standing there but on my bill it says 0 gpm? I have a feeling I'll be hydrafracking it.

Just a random picture to let you know I did have a little fun today, gotta ride a couple laps pretty often to keep the trails from growing in..it happens fast

Mark they didn't leave very much height in this pipe..... ie be careful about flooding and grass etc.... as the lower the pipe is to the ground the more concern for foreign objects to get into the pipe..... not sure about the sloping etc....

If there is a hard rain with the ground frozen with snow etc... surface water could get in.

+1 - You might want to give them a call and see what they can do to add an extension...

No worries about the well casing, there's about 18" of that stone slury stuff packed around it. Either way, I'll have to add at least 1 of those cement casing things around it as I have to build up the land around it just to get the water line below the frost line. The ledge is only 2' below the surface.

I set up a date to hydrofracture the well today, guaranteed to get at least 1 gpm or there's no charge. When they pumped it dry the following day, it didn't produce any measurable amount of water

These second floor walls are killing me time wise, it takes forever to frame with all the angles, kneewalls and closets I have maybe 4 or 5 more hours of work in the spare bedroom upstairs and the framing will be complete. I'm hoping for a framing inspection a week from Monday so I can bring in the plumber, electric and the heating system. We are going to measure for the electric service tomorrow, I'm going underground with it.

Septic installer was there nice and early today installing the eljen units. I'm not a big fan of a plastic leachfield but we'll see I guess.

The front half of the master bedroom.

Rear half

Hallway/closet from the big room

I put some plywood down for a catwalk in the loft, not a big fan of slipping and having a foot go through the ceiling..

Still working on the spair room, I made a hidden closet within the closet, good storage area and I hate to waist any space.

I need this pile gone, who wants to stop by tomorrow night and drink some beers by the fire? That pile looks about 12 beers big

End of the day today (forgot to mention I took today off from work) I just had to do it!! I've been wanting to climb the big pine tree sence I bought the land..yeah a little childish but the view sure was awesome

Looking up

The view from the top..I coulda went another few branches up but I didn't want to push my luck

Hopefully by next weekend I'll be able to start the siding, which should go pretty quick

I've never been a big fan of the Eljen system, but I do design plenty of Enviro-septic

the old fashion stone & pipe system has fallen out of favor locally, there is very limited source of clean stone

If you plan to build up the grade around the well then the casing needs to extend 24-36" above the finished grade. If you do what you are describing then you will be creating a pit that will fill with water and allow surface water and contamination into your well. At this point with no power and no pipe in the well it is easy to extend the casing to the right hieght.

As far as raising the grade for freezing you if you sleeve the water line in a larger pipe and lay it on the ledge( which is always 50 degrees+/- ) and cover w/ 2" blueboard you can easily get away with 2-3 feet of cover.

Oh yeah and the place is looking great!

Are those 2"x4" studded exterior walls?

Might I suggest exterior foam board to save on your utility bills or at least try that spray on foam stuff out now that they shave down to seal out the entire wall.

2x4 vs 2x6 is 30% less insulated.

Put at least R60 in the attic.

Yes they are 2x4 walls. Keep in mind the climate down here is quite a bit different than where you are. R-13 is standard for the walls and R-39 is what's being used for the ceilings. My winter heat is mostly going to cost me labor, just with dead wood down in the woods, it'll be 2 or 3 years before I have to cut another live tree. Oil is for backup when I get lazy

I have yet to see a well around here sticking 2-3 feet out of the ground? That's a lightening rod around here!! The one at our house now is 5 feet below grade with the cement cylinders coming up to the surface. In this location, I'm certain no surface water will get in. I'm on top of a hill and it will be easy to pitch the water away.

Thanks again for the compliments

Your typical well that I wire is about 3 feet off the finish grade. I have never had to wire one that wasn't at least 2 feet off the ground. I don't know the codes as far as height is concerned, but it makes sense that they are kept up high to keep run-off water out.
