This is a long shot, but what the hell.

My wife and I have been looking for a White German Shepherd puppy for a while now, since her White Shepherd mutt died last summer. I am having absolutely no luck finding one. Either the breeder doesn't have any, or they are completely psychotic and want me to fill out a questionnaire including some questionable details.

Does anybody know of a good White German Shepherd breeder? They are basically the same dog as a regular Shepherd, but obviously are white. Not many people will breed both the regular Shepherd and the white variant, as the white dogs are considered a "defect".

I'm willing pay up to $1,000 for one of these puppies, but I just cant seem to find any.

There is a place in Amherst, NH called Granite State Dog Training Center and i know he specializes and breeds German Shepards. It would be worth a call. Good luck

I got mine from a breeder in Claremont, NH. My dog turned out VERY timid and is on medication to control her bladder, so I wouldn't recommend the breeder I got mine from.

Extremely loyal dog though.

From what I've learned, most Shepherd breeders destroy white pups. Apparently there's usually some serious problems (mentally/pysically) with the white ones. Some kinda genetic thing...

(We were looking for one too a while back)...

Ya my neighbor had an all white one. They eventually put it down because of it's hip problems. It got so bad that he could hardly make it up and down the steps to get in/out of the house.

the ones i seen(mothers a vet)happens between 5 and 8 years of age.....just when theres not much a vet can do

My neighbors dog, Mack, was pretty old anyways. He was awesome around people but hated other dogs.

I remember he started some beef with our two dogs who were much younger and probably had some wolf in them. Cause our dogs ripped out part of his intestines. That was a fun night

Really? Thats something to look in to.

I've been doing a lot of research today, a lot of the breeders give the same health guarantees you get with a normal Shepherd - OFA certified hips, health guarantees, etc.

I've also learned that they are silly expensive. I found a female with a lifetime health guarantee for $750, and a male with the same guarantee for $1300, both of which would need to be shipped from the midwest for about $350.

My wife has her heart set, though.....

I'm a little worried, though, given the issues you had with your dog.

I'll talk with them a bit, see if they give a guarantee, etc.

IMO the guarantee isn't worth the paper it's written on. Almost all health guarantees I've seen are limited to a replacement pup and the dog needs to develop a health problem that requires the dog be put down. If I get a dog that I have to put down 10 months later, the last thing I would want is to go through it again; I'd be looking elsewhere for a new pup.


I think I got the "black sheep/runt" of the litter. When I got her, she was four months old and was the only pup left. In hindsight, she was already showing signs of being a timid dog (keeping to herself and away from the other dogs), I just didn't see it through the excitement of getting a dog. I saw a pup that was crate trained, nearly house broke, and already spayed...seemed perfect.

As far as the bladder control problem...don't get a female. When my dog started having problems the first thing the vet asked was "spayed female?" Hormonal incontinence is somewhat common in spayed females I guess. It's totally controlled by medication, it just sucks to give the dog a pill twice a day.

I guess what I'm saying is...do your homework for what to look for in a pup, go see the litter early to get the pick of the whole litter, and I think you'll be okay.

We ordered a male from the next litter of the place in Ohio Dianne posted up. (Thanks, Dianne! ) $750 plus shipping, and we get our pick of the litter. Should be born around the end of the month.
