Stupid Question about the cage..

I had a braincramp today and put 93 octane Shell V Power in my 05 Ford Focus ZX4. I read it's only rated for 89 octane in the owners manual. I just hit the wrong button when I went to fuel up the car.

Is this going to affect/hurt anything? I would think that it would be good to put better gas in it every once in a while but wasn't sure.

89 is the minimum you have to put in. Anything higher is just wasting your money but wont do any harm.

It's always good to stick with one octane, but if you use 87 and it don't Knock.. so be it..

Your cars probably gonna **** the bed before mannana/tomorrow. Nah... my buddy who went to HS for auto macanics(sp) says theres pretty much no difference in octane fuels and oil grade as far as basic cars go, when you stat getting high up on the chain of cars maybe but those damn mechanics lie out their *** anyways.

from what I understand octane rating it the temp/pressure at which the fuel will detonate instead of flash like it is supposed to, Ive never heard of anyone hurting anything besides their wallet by putting high octane gas in their engine.

If the manual does not say 90 octane RON+MON/2, 87 is probably fine. In the US, we use the average of the research octane number (RON, best case octane rating) and the method octane number (MON, worst case octane). Some other countries use just the research octane number so their octane numbers are a bit higher, relative to ours. IIRC, 91 RON, is roughly the same as 87 RON+MON/2.

My Concours engine is basically two EX500 engines and it runs perfectly on 87.

if it's your GSXR, you probably ought to use 90+ RON+MON/2

yup the manual says "Use only unleaded gasoline of at least 90 pump octane (R/2 + M/2)."

I'm gonna start putting 90+ in it. When I first got it I was using 93 but towards the end of last season I started using 87.
