Electrical epoxy...where can I get it locally?

Just as the title reads. I need electrical epoxy for making a watertight, solid-encased electric module on my bike. Stuff i've seen before dries rock-hard, usually black in color. Electrically non-conductive. Where can I find this stuff in stock locally (central MA)?

Not sure if this is what you are looking for but you can get "liquid electrical tape" from Home Depot and I would assume most any other hardware store. Common silicone adhesives can be used for potting as well.

Familiar w/ liquid electrical tape...not the stuff I need.

What epoxy would be used for: put a number of electrical components (resistors, diodes, PCB, whatever) and put them in a box, then fill the box with this epoxy stuff. It cures rock hard, water proof, permanently seals all the electrical bits and any wires going into the works, etc...

Idea is similar to filling a mold with concrete.

For electrical needs of 12 volts any epoxy will do the shock and water
protection.

There may be cooling problem if there is heat from the power components

Locate heat porucer near what will be the surface or put on a heat sink

The term your looking for is "potting material"

It doesn't cure rock hard but RTV Silicone is a great potting compound which can be found at almost any hardware store. I prefer to use silicone when potting because it can be removed if necessary.

Besides that, any epoxy that doesn't have conductive materials in it will work ok in your application.

Just found a product and source for what you are looking to do.

Stanley Supply & Service
(978) 682-9844
335 Willow St, North Andover, MA

http://www.stanleysupplyservices.com...p.aspx?id=2941

The link is to a 50mL tube but it is also available in 200mL and 400mL tubes.

I purchase solder paste through them and they allow me to pick it up at their facility. Can't hurt to give them a call.

The only downside is it is a commercial product that requires a dispensing gun and mixing tip. You can get around it by pushing on the back with a screwdriver and making sure you have a 1:1 ratio.

Thanks guys! Thats exactly what I'm talking about. Should be able to find more results w/ the right term, eh? Thanks for the link ZX12.

All I want to do is professionally finish up a custom battery connection for my TLR. The factory plug was horrible, but also attached to the main system fuse and starter relay assembly. I cut out the plug part, soldered in wires and want to seal the whole deal (obv. not the relay tho).

I had already tried RTV; wasn't happy w/ results.

While I'm here - would a regular 30A automotive relay work as a starter relay? Or does it need a special, high-current relay? It probably would've been easier to make my own entire relay/plug/fuse assy if a reg relay would do the job.

No

Ford uses an independent contactor so you could cobble one of them in
