we weave some styles in New Hampshire with a German company called Cramer. they're in Dover. There's another mill that weaves sailcloth, Warwick Mills, but we don't use them at all. Here in the States we finish woven product at Kenyon in (how's this for original?) Kenyon RI. Our European production is finished at a place called KBC which is in Germany right near the Swiss border, Black Forest. They have AWESOME twisty roads in the Black Forest... that's the place to be transferred to. |

T595 Gregyes, Hong Kong is like Hawaii. At least you can see the sun there. However, China is gonna kick this countries ass in every industry because of the overabundance of people willing to work for pennies and hour. They are building this huge damn which will power 18 cities the size of Los Angeles for free. We are moving our plant there and also sourcing fabrics from there as well. Might I suggest sourcing from there? And yes, that is where the economy is going. You think its bad now, wait until 2005 when WTO takes them on. And add to it, India, Indonesia, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Myanmar and few others to boot to compete with each other. We are in big trouble. We exchanged manufacturing jobs for agriculture.... So if your in Farming, that is the place to be. |

T595 Gregactually we are looking to source polyester fiber from the far east (China & Korea). it's so cheap it's practically free. woven sailcloth (for now) is pretty safe from cheap labor. it's a very high beat-up fabric, small runs (relatively speaking) and quite technical. what is happening though is more sails are being produced in China and Sri Lanka. they are paying these guys less in a week (or maybe a month) than they pay a sailmaker here in the States, and that ain't saying much because sailmakers aren't exactly rolling in money.. |

T595 GregWell we can all thank BIG BAD BILL CLINTON for passing that free trade bull shit law. Snowborder maybe you should find a new profession instead of fabric. I got smart and left that place 3 years ago. Plenty of jobs, just have to search hard for the good ones. Besides it would cost to much to travel from China every weekend to ride with us so that's out too. It's a bitch to find people to ride with on the weekends..... |
