Direct TV Vs. Comcast

So anyways, I have Direct TV.. Comcast calls me about a week ago and offers me this kickass deal for coming back to them for 16 months.. I tell them well I cna't I have Direct TV and they have me under contract for another year, Comcast says well they can't hold you to a contract in Mass, only in New Hampshire.. So is there any truth to this, I know the scum bags would say anything to get me to switch back, but just wondering if anyone else has been through this, because direct TV contract says I have to pay like $150 per recieve if I cancel with in the 2 year agreement, I have 3 recievers..

Have comcast put it in writing, and agree to pay the fee if you're held accountable for it by direct TV.

If they really want your business they will buy you out of contract (They will pay the $450 to cancel Direct TV).

I highly doubt Comcast would dish out that kind of money.

$93 for phone and internet!! holy crap.. and $75.00 a month without pay for Directv .... is this with all the HD channels or. something?

Make sure your comcast includes these channels.

Right now I have Dish Network $58.00 Americas top 120 plus locals, plus 1 DVR and 1 normal receiver. Ie no HD no pay channels
Time Warner Cable for Internet at $24.95 for their basic basic cable modem.
Verizon for Local Long Distance at $40.00 a month includes taxes..
Total $123.00

Also is the a "Lost Leader" with comcast.... how much is it after 6 months or a year?

And my experience with those with internet phone / vonage.... everyone hates it.... especially if the power goes out or the bandwidth is being used up by your neighbors.

Direct TV Vs. Comcast

I have had both Direct TV and Comcast. Comcast has the On Demand, which is a great feature loaded with great stuff for the kids and the adults alike, including tons of movies... free.

When I had Direct TV is was when I was RV'ing for 7 months, I had no need for phone service or internet as the RV didnt have the capabilities for that. I just used my cell phone and got by that way. I am sure there was some way to wire it up but it would have been big money and its wasnt priority at the time.

I hooked up with Comcast internet and cable when I got out of the RV and in to an apartment this fall. For slightly more than what I was paying for the Direct TV, I got internet AND cable from Comcast in a package deal.

I had no problems with the cable tv end of things with Comcast, but the internet end of it left a lot to be desired. The modem and service itself had glitches where I would have to call them and get them to reset the modem or the connection to get it to work.

On the customer service end of things, Direct TV was a lot better to deal with than Comcast for everything from tech support to billing issues. Very few problems with Direct TV and when they rarely came up, they were resolved right away. Comcast, on the other hand, were asses to deal with in general.

Now Im with Verizon for DSL internet and home phone service. Soon they will have the FIOS tv in our area but they offer Dish Network in a package deal for those who own their homes and can have a dish installed (not allowed here). The internet connection has had no issues since installed, is just a hair slower than the Comcast but in general, far less problematic.

Comcast on demand is nice, they are beefing it up a ton more shortly. Going to a much more on demand platform for general tv viewing.

That reason alone keeps me from considering direct TV.

I haven't gotten cable or internet since I moved into my place still and it's been over three months. I can get a low connection from some of my neigbor's wireless networks if i need to get on. The price is great too, free. I miss a couple of the shows i used to watch but I'm not laying on the couch anymore, I'm out doing fun stuff. I don't think I'll get it now. Maybe in the winter. i don't like being bound by stupid contracts either, I think it's rediculous that phone and cable require contracts.

Comcrap is harping about the FCC's mandate for carriers to provide local broadcast HD content. Comcrap would rather you pay extra for anything & everything HD. Verizon will have no problem with their plubming to provide this HD content. But now suddenly *someone* has instigated a controversy with regard to Verzion's rights to telephone poles, and how they're exempt from paying taxes on their rights to them. SO, chances are good that Verizon will end up passing on their increased taxe burden onto their customers at some time. How timely, as Verizon has planned to begin major expansion of FiOS into more suburban and rural markets.

If I *could* get Comcrap, I'd go back to them for tv & broadband. For HD content, I'd just use an off-the-air antenna for now. DirecTV's supposed HD content is all marketing -- anything over SD can be called "HD." Fuck DirecTV. At this point, I can only hope FiOS makes it to us by the end of 2008.

Hmmm, I pay $117 (taxes included) for Comcast digital w/ HDTV and expanded cable. (no premiums, except the Encore package) and high speed internet. (8Meg with the boost)

And I pay only $19 (taxes included) a month for Vonage 500 minute VoIP phone. That's unlimited incoming calls and 500 anytime nation-wide calling. Since I rarely ever use my home phone, it made sense to use this plan.

and then there was FIOS....
Just the thought of having everything going thru a cable, including phone, and knowing Comcast is always dropping signals...well around here anyway....I priced the packages for what the wife and kids want, internet, cell phones, Mind that I have 3 discreet boxes and i'm still doing better than going with comcast. Comcast likes to charge you for every box, and what it has on it...I pay just 4 or 5 bucks a box, and all TV's have the same programs...non of the bullshit.... I think I pay around 130 for everything....where Comcast wanted over 200! Screw them...

Well here is where I want my cake, and I need to eat it too.. I don't want to drop my comcast interweb, because I have had my email adress forever, and I mean 4-EV-A (used to be josephd14@mediaone.net) so as long as comcast has been here in New England.. there is no problem having my phone and internet modem together It does not lagg at all when on the phone, the combined phone link hub, and modem that comcast uses is pretty good, even if power goes out it has a battery back-up so I still have phone.. So I used to have something like Vonage, but when I droped my comcast cable and went to Direct-TV.. Had to bundle there phone-internet or my internet would go from $43 to almost $60.. My direct TV DVR service is pissing me off though, when I record something and play it back, it skips like a scratched DVD ... I priced every combo of cable-phone-comcast internet and going back to comcast is the only noticalble savings..

(sorry I cut my hand in a chain-saw today so with bandaged digets it's tough to type)

Snowboarder ??? Your losing me here dude.. TLRMAN, it would be cheaper or the same if I went to Verizon, but I just don't want to drop my Comcast internet, and go with DSL.. I did that once and came back pretty quick, and if I don't keep atleast 2 services with comcast my bill goes up to like almost $60 for internet, so you are right DSL/Verizon Phone, and DTV are cheaper then any other combo, but Iwant my cake and I want to eat it too..

You don't know the meaning of a lost leader.....

Ie it costs $99 a month now for the first 6 months
then it goes to $149 a month after 6 months.

Not sure if it does, but be sure to ask those type of questions or read the fine print.
