Stop Smoking!

After being told I have pneumonia and missing work, feeling like ass, etc. I have had it with smoking. Tomorrow is my quit day.

Talked with the doctor and I will be getting the nicotine inhaler thingy tonight.

I am smart enough to know that I can not do it cold turkey. I would rather admit that and use a crutch then try it that way and fail.

How many of you have quit smoking and have some tips to offer?

I never smoked...but chew gum. Smoking is an oral fixation and you're gonna want to constantly have something in your mouth...so not to gain weight, don't make it food and just chew lots of gum, lollipops, etc. Don't go to the bars b/c smoking's still legal in Nh (?); basically, don't 'test' how strong your will is.

Goodluck and smart move!!

I've been smoking since I was in the womb. Best product I've used so far are called nicotine inhalers. They're little plastic cigarettes that you pretty much pretend to smoke. Pop in a fresh nicotine cartridge whenever you get a hard craving and 'puff' away. Best part is you can get your fix whereever you are. The office, in the mall, anywhere.

I smoked almost two packs a day for about 7 years (through Highschool and College). I quit cold turkey. The hardest thing was finding things to do with all that excess time i had. I played more sports and made sure to surround myself with people that did not smoke. Also here is the most important tip - this time of year is the best time to quit and here is why. It's warm out, it's motorcycle weather, and you CANNOT smoke while riding.

GOOD LUCK! YOU CAN DO IT!

I "quit" a little earlier than I thought. Picked up the inhaler setup today. After a few minutes of reading through instructions, Im good to go. And like you said, you can get a fix no matter where you are. No more feeling secluded at work, while out and about, etc.

The first time with the inhaler was a bit rough, coughed, felt kinda weird. But no biggie now. Toss the little plastic fake cigarette with a few refill cartridges in the handy little case, throw it in my purse and Im good.

Thanks for the well wishes guys. I appreciate your support.

The worst thing you can do is ask people for tips, especially on an internet message board. Quitting's a piece of cake, I've done it a thousand times now. I've been smoking heavily since I was a teenager. Father's Day is my target date, then I'm done...

Outta the handful of attempts I've made, the absolute worse thing I've ever done was tell people. My most succesful go 'rounds were when I flew under the radar...never said a damn thing - just did it. When people find out, it makes it harder. The so-called tips, the encouragements, the pep-talks are ALWAYS what ruin it for me...

Good points here Jay. It kinda started with everyone tellin me I had to quit because I was so damn sick. Then I agreed, and quit, and feel like ASS at the moment. Seriously... DT's, coughing up shit, its awful. This has been my first attempt at quitting so I guess I thought getting tips and what not was the way to go.

I saw a dude in Randolph on a GSXR1K light one up before he took off from the McDonald's I was at with my son. he was sporting the vintage chrome German helmet, jeans, sneakers, and no gloves.

Cool man.....

Stop Smoking!

I started smoking to be cool in high school at 15. I quit cold-turkey when I was 23. I woke up one night, gasping for breath and knew it time to quit.

I've been smoke-free for 19 years.

It was really bad for me to smoke anyway. I had a congenital heart defect that was repaired when I was 8.

Cold turkey for me ... every time I used the gum or something else, I would fail.

It was like I needed to feel the pain of doing it cold turkey for me to stay off the habit. Like I never wanted to go back to that space again.

Stop Smoking!

I smoked for 11 years and quit after 3 days on Welbutrin (Zyban).

Not too hard, I was a bear for about a week though....

The strangest thing for me was the friggin' dreams......every f(*&*%$#ing night the same damn dream......

I'm half way through a smoke, with some friends (real one's, not you posers - LOL) and I suddenly realize that I just f%$#@ing ruined my quitting for (insert amount of time to that point) by smoking this thing. Then I'd wake up.

Swear to God, every night for about 3 months, then it slowly dwindled to not dreaming that dream anymore.

'course, I am about to go to bed..........
