Anyone following the America's Cup?it's on VS. (formerly OLN) the coverage sucks... Tucker Thompson is a twat. I want the Swiss to win, as keeping the Cup in Europe is good for business & also good for the Cup. If it goes back to NZ it'll be a bit of a let down. |

Anyone following the America's Cup?I don't think the coverage is that bad but Tucker is an idiot. I am not partial to who wins as long as the race stays exciting. I have an opportunity to do some crewing and I will as soon as the back and arm heal up a little more. |

Anyone following the America's Cup?The coverage isn't TOO bad.... it could be a whole lot worse. At least they're staying with the race for the mark roundings, and not cutting out to commercials. I personally would have loved to see Luna Rossa go up against Alinghi, but they simply got their asses spanked by Emirates in the LV finals. |

Anyone following the America's Cup?I've been watching the LV series and the America's Cup. Gotta love Tivo. I grew up sailing and racing... crewed on a J24 and a J29 for years and years. I would like to find a boat to crew on around here. As for who wins... it not a big deal to me... especially since almost all the teams are made up of kiwi's. Ditto the Luna Rossa comment... If the US couldn't contend then I would liked to have seen the Italians win it. As for coverage... it blows. They may know how to sail, but it seems like they don't communicate tactics well to the audience. For the first 3 races all they talked about was boat speed and getting "lucky" with wind shifts. There's a lot more to winning a race than boat speed... and finding and playing wind shifts isn't always about luck. |

Anyone following the America's Cup?... and they do cover the mark rounding well enough, but you'll notice that after the rounding they go to commercial.. lots of 'em, and when they come back the boats are half-way up the beat. Better to just watch the end and they replay the salient points. I know a lot of these guys, sailed against and with them over the years... Tucker is a boob, but good on him for carving out a niche for himself. Terry Hutch is very good, but he'd be faster if Tucker wasn't kissing his ass all the time ![]() the other clown in the boat w/ Tucker is a complete tosser. he might as well just come out & declare his love for team NZ. Peter Isler... should have stuck to Concours d'Elegance on Speedvision.... dry as toast. ok, that's my rant it's tied up now |

Anyone following the America's Cup?Yea.. the mark roundings are covered, but in race 2 for example... they were showing straight line sailing in the upwind legs... then they would gloss over the tacks... or even worse, they would go to sail track (computer animation) to discuss the tacks. I want to watch that part live. Anyway... I shouldn't complain... i'm just glad it's being televised. A friend of mine is in Valencia now watching the races... that bastard. |

Anyone following the America's Cup?I crew on a 43 footer out of New London sometimes PSSST It ain't Americas cup. We don't have a dog in the fight. Not to mention the crews are all hired from not associated countries. It may advance the state of the art but like GP it no longer has any bearing on the lives of regular people. BUt I guess to the Global Glitterati none of that matters does it. |

Anyone following the America's Cup?Quote:
as to not having impact on the everyday sailor, I completely disagree. Fiber rigging technology, string sails, tons of finite element software development all have their beginnings in the AC. but... if you're sailing on one of those old IOR 43' winch factories... then yeah, you're right, it doesn't have much impact ![]() congrats to the Swiss team... better for business that the Cup stays in Europe vs. NZ. |
