I found a used 2005 Nissan Titan SE i like. I am thinking about it... but first trying to learn more about the truck... but i cant find much... good or bad. That kind of has me worried... there are a few folks here that drive them right? What do you think?

Nissan Titan

I have a 2004 Titan king cab off rd yada, yada, yada.
I have about 25k on it and it's been a great truck.
There have been a few recalls on them that nissan took care of, there are reports of some problems with the rear ends that nissan also seems to take care of. I personally have had Zero problems.

MPG can run from 12-16 depending on where and how you drive like any other pickup, I average about 13 have a heavy foot, and very little highway use.

We have a 22 ft Camper Trailer thats 5000lbs loaded and the titan pulls it like a champ, although with trailer the milage is closer to 10-12MPG

If you like too much information try titantalk.com, forum.

Close but NO!!! Someone on here did cannot recall who.

Ive got an 07 CC LE and its been great so far. The basic info on them is that they came out in 04. The 04's and some 05's had 2 main issues, the rear diffs blowing and a brake judder. Both were covered for an extended amount of time, but CHECK these issues very well before buying either that they have had updates or would be covered if needed. The 06's and 07's are free from those issues and not all the 04's had em and even less of the 05's did.

check out titantalk.com its a very active and informative forum.

I was waiting on the tundra to come out and as soon as it did I pulled the trigger on the titan. I really like the truck a lot.

MPG I get 14 combined no problem and probably close to 18 for just highway.

Price wise they can be had at pretty good deals particularly if you can find a new leftover 06 which MAY be possible now that the 08's are out already. Check out carmax to get an idea if you are willing to go new.

I am the one with the blown rear end, AND the brake judder... Both problems were fixed under warrantee... I really like the truck.. gas mileage is horrible.. I get about 12 tops and 8-9 while towing my trailor... I do have a couple of gripes about the truck though

1. I have gone through 2 rear tool box latches AND they are NOT covered under my extended warrantee..

2. with 48,000 miles, my exhaust already has a leak.. I guess I just have to get a new banks, or another brand..exhaust also isnt covered under warrantee..

I opted to extend my warrantee, for another 60,000 miles, so I am "covered" until 96,000.. BUT all the extended warrantee plans offered by nissan suck.. It seems that everything that goes wrong woth my truck isnt covered.. I get stuck paying for the crap that isnt covered.. I guess, all car manufacturers extended warrantee's suck?

I would recomend getting one....

I looked at a whole bunch of trucks recently. Traded in my '98 Silverado. The Nissan Titan had some of the best features (looks good too), but had the worst reliability of the japanese trucks.

I got the Toyota Tundra (02) for a good deal. Its not a very lavish truck, and its pretty basic. But it'll take two bikes anywhere, 4WD works great, and the gas mileage is alright. The new ones are really nice.

Just my .02

ford is sueing the makers of the powerstrokes (international i think) over all the problems they have been having. i looked at a 05 used at best ford in amherst last friday. the salesmen(i know him) said to steer clear as it had tons of problems with the motor. carfax was eight pages long. ofcourse the dodge cummings are eating trannies and the d-max has front ifs so pick your poison.

Regarding the reliability of the titan, it was certainly suspect in 04/early 05 due to the brakes and the rear ends. I think that they have been improved SIGNIFICANLY in the late 05 onwards.

You're not the first person to say that about the Fords. I've had two of the 6.0L trucks; they clearly aren't as good as the old 7.3L trucks, but they really haven't been problematic at all for me. The '03 I had gave me a bunch of peripheral troubles, which were all due to someone installing a bunch of aftermarket crap; the '05 I have now hasn't **knocks on wood** given me any trouble at all, and now that its broken in, gets good fuel mileage.

The Ford dealer is cheapest (oddly enough?), its about $60-$70. It kinda evens out with a gas truck, as you only have to change the diesel's oil every 5-6k (they hold an obscene amount of oil). Also, you never have to do a tune up.

Titan is supposed to have a Navistar/International diesel option in 2009.

Put a CAT, Detroit, or a Cummins IL6 turbo diesel backed by a six-speed manual transmission in a Tundra 4 door and I'd buy one.

I might be late to the party, but I had on '04 Titan. It was an awesome truck, but I had one that kept eating rotors. I had to bring it back every month and a half to get new pads and have the rotors either turned or replaced. Apparently, they were just too small for the truck. I remember hearing that they fixed that in '05.

I eventually got an 06 Ram 1500 CC, and can tell you that in my opinion, the Titan was a quicker truck. Not by much, but it was. Nissan, for their 1st V8, made a great engine. I would love to check out the new Toyotas too. They look awesome.

They had a recall on the brake system on the 04's, mine had a slight "judder" before the recall but has been problem free since. I have on occation while towing with truck and trailer fully loaded wished for a bit more stopping power.

My buddy just pickup up a new Tundra, looks nice, haven't driven it yet, but for $299 lease its was a great deal.
