Here's an early nomination for the 2007 Stupid Award.

I own a condo as a rental unit, and was there today for a condo meeting. Afterwards I stopped into my place to check on it and ask the guys a couple questions about something(there are 4 guys living there). The same guy that emailed me a couple months ago asking if I could replace a lightbulb in his room had another request: to put his a/c in his window for him. Fair enough, better than him dropping it out the window on to a car.

I walk in his room, and his a/c is indeed plugged in and turned on: propped up on a chair in the middle of the room.

He's in his 30's, not like it's his first apartment out on his own.

Beat that.

I'm not Mr. Handyman, but he had to have me come over to CHANGE A F'N LIGHTBULB.

I can't believe how calmly I explained how an a/c works, instead of just asking him what the f**k is wrong with him.

I wouldn't call mine "stupid"...it's more "no understanding of mechanical things"

So this coworker (I won't mention her gender or hair color) calls a bunch of us into a meeting. She's literally wobbling with excitement. Envision someone who has just won the lottery. Well, she tells us she had this incredible idea the night before and could hardly sleep from excitement all night. She needed us to help her with some technical details so she could market her concept, save the world, and retire on her soon to be purchased private island. She was totally convinced she had that one-in-a-million idea which was going to change the world.
->She wants to build and electric car, and attach a generator to one of the wheels. The generator would charge the batteries as the car ran, thus a perpetual machine. No more pollution and no more driving expenses. <-
She is actually a very nice person, and it was sort of painful to see her get more and more sad as we try to explain things like friction and heat loss and the fact that it just wouldn't work. The more we discussed inefficiencies, the more she just wanted to add a bigger generator to make up for the losses. We felt bad crushing her idea. She went back to her office and I honestly think she was crying from disapointment.

And I have never met anyone free from defect in one form or the other.

i agree, some people may not be the most mechanically inclined, but i wouldn't call them stupid. For example, i can pull a motor out of a car or bike and have it rebuilt and running by the next day blindfolded, but if i had to program computer software i wouldn't be able to do it for the life of me. doesnt make me any smarter then a computer programer that doesnt know 4 cylinder from an 8.

but the a/c thing was pretty funny though, " i think this a/c unit isnt too good, its still hot and humid in here. "

Yes...I did. It's not that he couldn't change the lightbulb, but couldn't figure out how to get the light fixture off. Which was pretty damn simple.

And he does have a "normal" steady job. So I don't actually think stupid, but incredibly clueless.
