| Looking for contractor for gable vent install Hey guys,
I'm looking at installing 3 gable vents in my house. House is a colonial w/ attached garage.
1. My whole house fan does not have nearly enough area to vent (supposively needs 1 sq. ft. venting per 300 cfm...fan is 3600 cfm). Calculated ridge & soffit vent area and its not even 1/3 of the required area. You can tell the fan doesn't work right. So main house needs 2 vry large gable vents. Roof vents may be a better option, but so far I haven't found roof vents that have any advantages in terms of venting area. Attic is not finished...its a cold zone.
2. My garage attic needs a thermostatic-triggered fan & vent to help keep temp somewhat reasonable. I haven't thought much about where the intake air will come from...theres no gable on the other end (shared w/ house wall). Just ridge and soffit vents & this point. At this point I'm cool w/ just getting the fan's vent opening installed. I can take care of the rest (wiring is actually already in place).
I've got a fair set of skills (frame, electric, plumbing), but I'm not formally trained. Which is why I want someone in the trade to help. Just need experience/expertise/guidance on proper way to do it. I probably have most tools needed for the job and it seems fairly simple (only tools I can think of needing is tall ladder/s and specialized tools for exterior trim work). I want it done quick and don't have time right now to teach myself.
I thought I'd try here before the yellow book. I really want to work on this w/ someone to learn, as well as halt something if it seems half-ass to me (good contractors are hard to find). I will definitely pay reasonable rates and I want to be able to work on it as well. Can also provide food and beer.
So if anyone is up for doing this or has recommendations for central MA (Rutland MA area), thanks.
I can be flexible on hours. Weekends are best for me, but I could do eves or take a day off of work. Looking to start ASAP.
-K
