i dont get why everyone's so emotional over this. people start on 600s these days all the time. I'm not condoning it, but there's no avoiding it. I've been on a 500 for 3 1/2 years & I love it becasue I'm so comftorable on it, but even that can turn around & bite me in the ass.

as long as you know you need to respect the bike you'll do fine. you're taking advice, analyzing your weaknesses, riding with the right people, and wearing gear. sounds to me like you're headed in the right direction.
