Need some help...

Let me start by saying that I have never ridden a bike by myself. I have only been a passenger and that has only been in the past 2 years. I took the motorcycle safety course 4 months ago and successfully passed and got my license. Well, I was told that an 06 R6 was too big for me and that I would not be able to handle it (I think mostly because I was a girl). So in spite of this comment I went out and purchased an 06 R1 in perfect condition with just under 200 miles. Now I am having a very hard time riding it. The bike has a lot of power and I am very inexperienced. I have only been out on back roads and have not taken the bike over 30 mph. I am practicing all the time and don't feel as though I am getting any better. Can anyone offer any thoughts, ideas or just general useful information to help me out and be a better rider? I do not want to get rid of the bike. I want to be able to handle it and become a better / safer rider. I am very determined and want to be able to master this bike in a safe way. I live in the Tewksbury area if anyone is interested in going for a slow ride and maybe showing me some tips.

No doubt that the R1 is an extremely powerful motorcycle. It sounds like you are doing the right thing by being aware of it's potential and taking it slow

What types of roads have you been riding on? Route 38 type stuff? If that's the case get off those types of roads and get onto a 40mph area where you can get a better feel of the throttle and handling.

I work in Wilmington several days a week (here now actually) and would be willing to go for a ride.

WOW that is one hell of a first bike. You should REALLY consider either putting it away until next year and getting a cheap bike to learn on or sell it and get a smaller bike. A 250 ninja would be great to start with and can be had for about 1k and if you crash it, it will be way cheaper to fix than the R1

Considering your a girl your probably smaller than most guys and that just makes it tougher to ride a big bike like an R1

At the very least wear GEAR the whole shooting match boots, gloves, full face, jacket and riding pants or full leather suit (and just think girls look hot in full leather )

If your still to proud and stubborn go to a track day

PLEASE be safe and keep it shiny side up

At first glance, it was obvious to me that this was someone fuckin' with us. After checking the IP, it was confirmed...

I can't for the life of me understand why people do this. You know exactly who you are...

Nah. I don't like doing that unless it's absolutely necessary. About all I'll add is that he's probably up at NHIS racing this weekend and he has two user names here already. Make that three...

I'm not quite sure why people think this is someone playing a joke. I came here to get some honest and useful advice. Someone said about that they traced the IP address...well I'm sure if that is true it would have come back to Tewksbury which is where I stated I lived in one of my earlier posts. If you think this is some sort of joke..then don't reply. I am just looking for some help in riding the R1...thank you the guys who sent me the private messages and I will definitely be calling this week. Maybe we can get together for a ride next weekend. Stay safe.

This thread is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever seen. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having viewed to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Your avatar reminds me....

Hey, kids, it's me. I bet you thought that I was dead. But when I fell over I just broke my leg and got a hemorrhage in my head. HA HA HA.
