MA gun license / permit?

what is needed?

what does it entail?

where do I get one?

not a license to carry. I want to get a shotgun for skeet (sp?) shooting.

went today up in ME & shot a gun for the 1st time in my life today. found out I'm a pretty damn good shot. missed the first pull, but nailed the second & probably 90% of 75 or so rounds after that, at all different angles. so much fun...

I went up w/ my uncle who'se been shooting all his life. it was really laid back; just out in a field in the middle of nowhere. he had the setup. we'd just walk with the gun down & the setup behind or to the side. pull without any notice. track & BLAM!

so much fun!

so... about that MA license...

Also, for a shotgun in MA, you just need an FID

A quote from the Weyland Police dept website (first site I found with the description)
"A FID card authorizes the possession of non-large capacity rifles and shotguns"

If you contact your local police department they usually have a list of places that will offer the course. I know back when I took mine, I went to Northboro PD, it was I think a 2 or 3 night class.

I took the 3 hour class at the home of a local officer. $75, easy and thorough enough.

Get your class A. It's the same amount of effort but with a lot more flexibility in the end.

Once again I'm glad I live in Vermont. I don't even need a license or permit to carry a concealed handgun here, let alone buy a shotgun.

If you are serious about getting certified, then contact an instructor for the training. You can take it in NH or in MA, they are not that picky about it as long as you take it. Then get your A license. That is the CCW, but it will cost you $100 any way you look at it. Might as well get all the bells and whistles. That way if you like the handguns as well you are already set up.
I took the course from Rick Cooper at the Westford Sportsmans Club, he is a great instructor, who won't bore you to death. The course is about three hours.
After you file the paperwork, you will need to get finger printed, and wait until the state clears the permit. Then it is up to the chief in your town.
Takes about 2 months, but could take longer. Good luck.

I went to the PD last week to ask what the hell was going on, and they told me the average wait is 2 months. If Boston gets swamped it can take up to, if not more, than 3 months. Massachusetts doesn't want it's law abiding citizens to own firearms I guess.

Sure, but local PD and Chief dragging feet are what really delay it. When I was in MA and did my prints etc, it was all done and sent using a web app.

/Shrug screw MA!

MA gun license / permit?

The state started to slow things up in March, that was when the new Govenor started looking into taking away the towns right to approve, and push it to the state level.
A lot of people have been applying this year, as the governor wants to change things on us, combine this with the LT Governor that wants more gun controll. They are tossing around the idea of making the CCW expire every year, or increasing the licensing fee.

If you get your CCW this year it will be good for 4 years, so they have to honor that over any changed they make......
I would get it done asap and just wait for it...you can't rush the towns on it. They kind of got you by the short hairs until it comes in.
Also just an FYI...once you get the MA ccw, you can fill out the NH license application, and for $20 get your NH out of state ccw...takes about 2 weeks to get that and it automatic, once you have your MA state CCW

Yeah, I believe it, to them I'd be just another dirtbag with a gun. I called them again tonight to ask why my check just cleared 3 months later. I was told that's normal and my license would probably be here within the next couple of weeks. I smell bullshit! My appt./print interview was May 8th.

Nope they don't. Thats where I am from, and with my Maine drivers license, money and about 20 mins, I walk out with whatever gun they have that I want. Our state has a 1:1 gun:people population, yet the lowest gun violence rate in the country...interesting!

Oh fuck I just opened a can of worms didn't I?

Just wait to see what will happen if the new proposed law passes.
This will mean you can only purchase one gun a month, and the cops can conduct an "inspection" of all your firearms, and your storage and safety methods at any time, in your home, no search warrant needed.......

I've looked all around and can't find any of this info, tell your buddy to give us a link, that way we'll be able to stand up to this BS. Not accusing you of being a troll, just a concerned gun owning voter.

will check packing.org....might not be there. I know it is a current piece of legislation. It started as a limit to one gun a month, then some POS added the addendum to allow for "confirmation"of proper storage.

Will do come digging while I am at work...let them pay me to do it!!

Trust me I am concerned as well....nothing like a little search and seizure to ruin a perfectly good day
