VISTA

Well I had to get a new computer and of course it came with Vista

first initial startup was 1 1/2 hours
printer install 1/2 hour

then my quickbooks got hung up in an install

nothing would stop it.
cntrl alt delete... doesn't work

My only sucessful anti-geek effective cure

pull the AC line out of the back of the machine

this HP pavilion micro case I couldn't find a manual reset.

so here is the best modern age and if problems arise simpl;y kick the plug

Apple doesn't offer Vista...

Whether that helps anyone who uses Quickbooks? I wouldn't know.

Buying from HP is a big part of the problem.. they make money @ the low price point by selling companies
the right to infect your computer with crap before you even start it up.

The initial install of Vista is pretty bad, but the OS does speed up a little after that.

Search for the thread I put in here called something like "Vista users install these updates". They help a lot.

Also, run msconfig and turn off as much crap as you possibly can that comes on at startup, as well as killing off any services you don't use. Finally, go through and un-install every piece of junk program that laptop came with, including all of the crap-HP software. Leave only the drivers if you can. I'd also recommends removing any anti-virus it came with, you really don't need it (if you're smart with the files you open).

The ultimate solution is to either buy a Mac, or install Ubuntu linux; either one is great

If you want just the VISTA look and feel check this out. It has all the neat things about the OS w/o the headaches.

You're about to download BricoPack Vista Inspirat Ultimate 2 - CrystalXP.net

+3 for Ubuntu.

Just did another new machine prep for an HP with Vista. I didn't bother uninstalling the SHIT they load on it. If I did, it would of been 4 hours of clicking, waiting, agreeing, confirming, confirming again, saying yes, please, no, ok and whatever else it has you jump through to do anything simple.

Ubuntu, no more headaches......viruses.....popups.....ads.....SHIT.....
