Military Humor/ Rivalry

Okay, okay, I'm not going to wade in on this one. Though I'm a Marine it was a bunch of very brave AF pilots that put us on the beach. It was some incredible air and naval gunfire that got us out of hot spots. And it was some very competent and compassionate army medical types that patched us up afterwards. All this was a very long time ago, but it left me proud of each and every one of you.

Semper fi, Pete
Retired Chief Warrant Officer of Marines

Agreed. Certain units in the Army give out awards like they are candy.

I was in Kuwait pulling security for a year. They thought that deserved and Arcom ( Army Commendation 3rd from the bottom)
I thought it deserved a coin and a letter of appreceation.

Most of us got AAM's (Army Acheesement medals) because of people like me who bitched that an Arcom was to high.

I think the Infantry in the Army is ALOT like Marine combat units.

My Awards... Shit, let me find my 214...

Take the jokes for what they are, just humor, not insults. I think regardless of the job you are an essential part of the unit, some men aren't made for combat, that's why the cook isn't running special operations, he's supporting the people that do. I'm sure he doesn't matter until the day he dissapears and you don't eat. If there wasn't a need for water treatment specialists they wouldn't be there, but obviously troops need fresh water, so do liberated communities and desolate villages. Armed forces aren't just about firing missles and shooting the enemy.

I built and ran a restaurant when i was younger, and now I"m an engineer. I don't think that has anything to do with my points, which would be that making a difference is about the big picture. Your job may be 'bad-ass' to you. Maybe an engineer is building weapons to make a difference on a much larger level, but it doesn't seem you would consider them bad ass? Maybe a water treatment specialist is providing irrigation systems to communities struggling to survive, saving hundreds of lives. I think that's honorable and admirable regardless if he's carrying a weapon or unloading rounds in a gunfight. Death is not the point of war, it's an unfortunate byproduct.

I'm just surprised to hear some of the things you've said lately, and to hear your tone. I'm kinda guessing it might be related to you thread about being easily irritated and generally angry lately? Just another month and you'll get to enjoy some of that much deserved and well earned down time and relieve a little stress.

Spence just has a little what we call "Hooahness" in him. I am sure he agrees with Hessogood and Spence is coming across wrong.

The Infantry (Like the Marines) are educated (brainwashed) to believe there is NO higher calling. When you are in that job it really is the best thing to truely believe there is no better job.

Not taking anything away from you there Spence... but most of the jobs in the military are important, and they give ALOT of people valuable skills. Medics, Cooks, Supply, Admin. They may not be knocking down doors but they are taking care of troops.

I still get attitude from the Infantry types when they think I am "Just a Medic".

A young , attractive woman thought she might have some fun with a stiff-looking military man at a cocktail party, so she walked over and asked him, "Major, when was the last time you had sex?"

"1956, Ma'am" was his reply.

"No wonder you look so uptight!" she exclaimed. "Major, you need to get out more!"

"I'm not so sure I agree with you Ma'am," he answered, glancing at his watch, "It's only 2014 now."
