MSF Question

Is there any way to recover documents saying that you have taken the course? I have to do the military riding class and if I show proof that I have taken the MSF course I dont have to take the beginner course I can take the expert class....I took the course 6 years ago when I was 15....Grrr I really dont want to ride a lil 250 and have them show me all the stupid stuff like how to start a bike and where the blinkers are....I think im past that stage. Thanks.

I think in NH (don't know about MA) that the State DMV office keeps it on record in your "file".

In Alaska (and maybe in Wyoming) you can take the class online and get a certificate via fax. Hope this helps.

get it now?

Spence, if you call the school you did the class with they might have record of it. Or ask your insurance agent if they have a copy of your certificate. I know mine does.

I'm not sure what this military riding class is that you're referring to but typically you just need a motorcycle endorsement, proof of insurance and a BRC or ERC card to obtain a DoD sticker for your bike. If you have your endorsement that qualifies you to take the ERC course which is shorter and done as a refresher on your own bike.

MSF Question

Its mandatory that everyone that rides a motorcycle that is in the armed forces take the military riding class and upon completion they sign off on it...If I were to get pulled over and get a ticket the police would notify my command and my command would see if I took the course or not so reguardless I need to take the class.

Thanks Pete I'll see what I can dig up...I took the MSF course at Otis AirForce base I'll look them up and see if they have a copy of the certificate...If all fails I guess I'll just sit through the beginner course and waste a day of work.

Thanks all

Spence

MSF Question

yeah, sounds like that's what you'll have to do, I just found this on the MSF website:

1b. Lost "Class Completion" Card
MSF does not have access to all student records. While the MSF researches, develops and distributes the safety/training curriculum, each state and military branch administers the actual Motorcycle Safety Program. For card replacement, you would need to contact the site where you took the course. In order to obtain your training site information, you might try contacting your State Coordinator or Military Coordinator. Their contact information can be found via the link on this page.

So if your insurance company doesn't have a photocopy of it, give this a shot.

Hey Spence... Cheese is in the military and is REALLY familiar with what your talking about.

Basically if you already have a motorcycle license you can take the ERC and you don't have to take the BRC... IN THE MILITARY. It is what I did.

I had to take a course and since I had my license already I could just take the ERC. If you can find your certificate you don't have to take ANY of the courses, but if you don't and you show them your motorcycle license you can just take the ERC.
(Or at least they should allow you to.)

Do you have a MMP (Motorcycle mentorship program) on the base/fort your at? Tell me where your loacted and I can check if there is one.

They could help you with this issue (If you have a Club where your at)

I hope this clears stuff up.

Actually I'm a civilian (veteran) that works on Hanscom AFB but thanks for the character reference Doc. Don't get me started on base policy and motorcycles ....

[Rant]

I'm supposed to stop at the gate and replace my BLUE leather jacket with a RED,YELLOW or GREEN long sleeve t-shirt because BLUE isn't an approved color. Leather doesn't matter, only color. WTF? Wouldn't it make sense to ride to work in leathers, carry work clothes in a backpack and change at work? Um .. not allowed because backpacks aren't approved since they cover afore mentioned long sleeve colored shirt.

[end rant]

Spence,
The point I tried to make and that Doc is following up on is that the Basic Rider Course (BRC) is a 2 day course on a trainer bike vs. the Experienced Rider Course (ERC) which is an 8 hour refresher on your own motorcycle. The ERC will be shorter and more valuable in the event you can't get a copy of your original BRC completion card.

Funny story about this; As stated before, one has to show one of these cards before Pass & ID will issue a DoD vehicle sticker. I work with a guy who showed them his ATV Safety Course card and they issued him a DoD sticker for his motorcycle.

You try and get a bunch of "biker wannabes" to wear that! They all want BALCK and nothing but.

Or even the squidly posers (although they usually have bright gear)
