Digital SLR Question...

Finally broke down and got us wunna them fancy D-SLR cameras. I'm told that SOME of the 'old' lenses (analog) will work with the D-SLR's, some may not. Any REAL experiences?

analog?

If it's the same make (ie Canon film lens going on a Canon digital SLR) it will work, no problem. Beth switches lenses between film and DSLR all the time.

Digital SLR Question...

True...
None of my lenses are digital specific, but they are new and can be controlled from the camera... If the lenses are old enough you'd have to set aperture and whatnot manually, so you couldn't use most of the "auto" or "priority" modes, but they'll still work. At least the handful of Canon lenses I've tried worked just fine. Not exactly conclusive, though, I admit.

Yes, analog. A common referral to an 'old' method compared to newer, digital proceedures - whatever the given task. Just because you have a funny accent doesn't make you a master of the language...

No, digital slr cameras use a different kind of light than analog ones (they don't work in the visible spectrum, they use special digital light) so even if the lens physically fits, all your pictures will just be a void of nothingness.

Digital SLR Question...

he'll be spelling centre with the last two letters mixed up next... or tyre with an "I"

anyway... Canon automatic lens fit nicely on Canon digital SLR's
the interesting thing though, is the focal lengths change slightly... something about "virtual focal length" or some shit on digi only lens vs 35 mm lens.

True. I'd steer clear of digi-specific lenses, though... they compensate for an image sensor that is smaller than a 35mm frame. Pro-level digital camera bodies already have full-frame sensors (solving this problem) and it's only a matter of time before that technology trickles down to consumer/pro-sumer bodies. When that happens what happens to these digi-specific lenses? Your lenses should outlast a camera body that will eventually be obsolete when the latest greatest 40 bajillion megapixel model comes out.

Yes, they'lll work. The effective focal length will be altered though.

Check this:
