YouTube - Don Ross - Acoustic Guitar - www.candyrat.com

Don Ross is a fine example of a GOOD guitar player.

I like metal as much as the next guy, but there is just so much more out there as far as guitarists go.

I can't believe no one has said Prince. His songs are a bit off, but you can't deny his ability

Re: good guitar players?

You all listed a great bunch of guitar players. I for one use to be one. I started playing back when I was in 6th grade in elementary school all the way up to my mid 20's. I've played in many bands, recorded in several sudios and played on several national tours. The band name was Steadfast I toured with which was a mix of pop punk and just original. I played drums on one of the tours. We died away and was beyond our time but didn't stick with it. Got a CD recorded here in Boston at a studio named Toxic Audio which I'm sure is long gone. It was funded by a record label from Australia named One Foot Records. Anyhow, I haven't picked up the guitar in a couple years and when I do I totally suck now.. I now listen to some music I use to hate.

'Bout time someone mentioned George Lynch and Malmsteen.

Vito Bratta is another under-rated player.

Re: good guitar players?

Kind of depends on the genre... There's a lot I like, most of whom are listed already.

I don't think anyone mentioned Joe Pass or Djando Reinhardt. But those are 'jazz guys.'

I like John Mayer, I think he's got good abilities (as a song writer, and guitarist) - especially with his trio, and his latest album, Continuum.

Eric Johnson, Steve Vai, and Joe Satriani (G3 concert...). That reminds me... any of you see the "shred" videos on YouTube (it'd be a video of someone like Vai, with some crap over dubbed over it -- sounds like your typical Saturday morning at Guitar Center.)

Re: good guitar players?

thanks for all the suggestions guys, I got away from the guitar for awhile, but in the last could days found another cool one that gets away from the Satriani effects/electric sound and gets back to the classical guitar style...

this one's called "classical gas" by mason williams:

I played classical guitar for about 5 years... Montoya is unbelievable and Segovia is just in a league of his own. But if you're into classical, John Williams is always phenomenal to watch/listen to.

Nobody can play guitar with 3 fingers like Tony! Freaking amazing on the Dio stuff. Not that I like it, but its still impressive for a 3 fingered man.

You are joking right? This guys is self-admitedly the joke of the guitar world. Any 12 year old who can play power-chords and know the pentatonic scale could do an equivelent if not better job. Probably better as they wouldn't be all boozed up while playing.
