Got a new digital camera today since my other one's lens got knocked out of alignment and it didn't make sense to repair it. I need my main camera to fit in a pocket pretty easily otherwise I won't use it. Especially because I like to bring it with me when I ride. I like it to have at least some of the features of a larger camera and have decent resolution. Well, I looked around a bit, and I've always been partial to Sonys (I have a DSC-V1 and the one with the knocked lens is a DSC-T7) and found their newest POWERHOUSE... the cybershot DSC-W300. This little bastard still maintains the tiny cybershot profile (looks to me like they use pretty much the same case as the 7 and 8 MP versions), but packs a TON of features and boasts a whopping 13.6 MegaPixels!!! Here are the stock photos:







So, that's the one I decided on, and just went today after work and bought it right away. On top of that, I smoothtalked the sales guy at Circuit City and got him to sell it to me for a decently lower price than he should have

I've been getting into photography a bit more the past several years and would like to get a nice SLR when funds allow it. For now, I can borrow a Nikon D70 from work and play with that whenever I get the itch.

personally i wouldnt ever buy kodak or sony digital cameras. not sure of sony, i but kodak makes you use their UBS cable, and both brnads make you use their own memory cards. i like my cannon and nikon cameras that use standard mini USB cables and will work with any SD brand memory card. i've seen a few people at work lose their USB cables and had to resort to memory card readers to get pictures off their cameras. and the sony memory cards are expensive.

my friend has the casio exilim and it powers on and takes pics way faster than my sony. I do have an older camera though. The exilim is also way thinner. I'm still pretty parial to the sony cameras though. I might have to check out the one you got.

You getting good action shots of your aussie? That's one main reason I want it to catch my BC and other dogs in action.

I am keeping my eye open for one.

I'm not going to say you bought a bad camera because you didn't...but I'm still trying to figure out why everyone thinks that megapixels = good picture... Check the pics in my gallery. Only 6.3mp but it's a digital SLR.

I'm getting my girl a digital camera for her getting her masters degree this week but I need something small and easy to use. I really just want simple, small, decent photo quality, but also an ok zoom. I have found a couple with all of the above except only a 3x zoom. Suggestions? The one you got looks legit but hows the price and everything? I'm really only looking for $200ish?

I don't have the Aussie anymore. But I got great shots with our old POS something-or-other than was less than 5MP of his mad frisbee skills...

You're not keeping an eye out for an AUSSIE are you??? I'd NEVER get another one...

I agree. Especially in point and shoot cameras, megapixels is a very misleading term that people assume equals quality. That's not to say that the OP's camera is of poor quality, but MP's aren't the best way to judge the quality of a camera.

As for myself, I shoot a Nikon D80 DSLR. Someday I'll learn to use it even close to it's potential...

nice camera...i have a sony dsc-t30 and love it!! nice and slim so it can be carried around in your pocket. getting a dslr next so i can have some real fun (i heart the Nikon D80)

The thing lists for $349, I got the guy at Circuit City to give it to me for $300. Basically sony was able to fit the new 13.6MP chip (just came out) into their cybershot casing that they use with their 7 MP (and one other I think) camera... I think that's why the cost stayed down. This camera is a STEAL even at the MSRP IMHO.

Sony using their own batteries, memory cards, and cables allows them to pack more/better stuff into a smaller package than the competitors. And their cards aren't expensive.... high speed 1 gig for 25 bucks.

I spoke about the price above... they have a version with less resolution that is around 200 and is pretty much the same camera otherwise. I think it's 8 MP or so.

I don't recall saying MP = good picture... but in this case, the resolution is fucking huge and the picture quality is excellent. So if I bought some cheapass brand toting the number of MP then yes, it would be a gimmick. But sony's cybershot line has always been among the best and that's the line I've bought most of my digicams from over the years.

The extra megapixels can act as extra zoom. Basically I require my camera to be small enough to carry, and as such 3x is the zoom level that is available on most cameras. But this takes such frigging huge pictures, I can practically triple that zoom level just with image resolution

Also, it has a Zeiss lens. Awesome.

I want to get an SLR eventually for when I intend to carefully take pictures and use full manual mode. This is my everyday camera, and considering its size it has tons of power, tons of features, and can even be used in manual mode which I will certainly take advantage of when the subject is not time-sensitive.


I was able to take a few quick pictures at lunch yesterday and am very happy with this thing. It friggin rocks and has TONS of features. I love Sony, my family and I have always bought their electronics whenever they were an option.

Also, the stabilization on this thing is REALLY fucking good. I've never used a camera that the image stabilizer worked so good on.

No offense taken man. The point of this camera, for me, was to be a compact point and shoot, but provides features and performance far above a normal compact point and shoot, which I believe it does... and it does so with a small size and good price point.
