Rant: People Wanting to Trade on Craigslist

I've spent allot of time looking at bikes and just about anything else on CL and keep coming across people, typically people selling motorcycles, who are willing to trade "anything interesting" on a trade for their motorcycle.

Being a business major currently in school, I understand what they are trying to do by pitting potential buys against each other in an attempt to get the best possible item for a trade, but GIVE ME A BREAK! It's like they're waiting for some moron to say, "Hey, I've got a new G4 jet that I don't need, would you be willing to trade that for your 2001 R1?"

The other scenario I see is teenagers trying to have their crappy, overpriced car audio items traded for something like a sport bike or sports car; get a brain kids! No one in their right mind is going to trade their 2007 R1 for your Sony Xplod subs and amp!

It seems to me that CL has turned into a list of scammers and dreamers. Everyone is trying to pull the wool over buyer's eyes in an attempt to rip them off. Yes, there are many legit buyers and sellers, but they seems to be few and far between.

No, I won't take your paintball guns and video games. No, I won't trade my 1998 bike for your 1988 bike. And finally, no, I won't give you my house for your Pinto, now matter how "mint" you think it is.

Thank you and have a pleasant day!

I heard a story about some idiot who traded a perfectly good television for a case of beer.

Yes, I've read that story, but that's a once in a lifetime thing. The guy also got very lucky in certain respects. I'm talking strictly CL, if you look at enough ads, you'll def understand what I'm getting at.

yeah but you can offer people money like a regular trade and most likely they wont turn you down, and im not talking unreasonable sums either. i do understand this is a rant however and i thought it was an amusing one at that. funny stuff. i always found it interesting that people with older crappier bikes think that you will trade your newer, bigger bike for it. are they retarded or just stupid?

i've had some good luck with craigs. the scams are easy to spot and i always have cash. the thing that bothers me the most are the unbelievably cheap people that cruise that site. i'm asking 100 bucks so no i won't take 14 bucks a piece of gum and some postage stamps.

Re: Rant: People Wanting to Trade on Craigslist

I'm not stressed out by any means, def more important stuff going on in my life. I'm just curious as to why people would be asking for such ridiculous trades. Are they subconciously trying to check the average IQ of Craiglisters? Or are they just hoping for a sucker? I think that's it. Now...time to try to get me a Ducati for a button and pieces of string!

Just like eBay and all the other sites out there, it doesn't take long for the scammers to find and ruin it. You just need to create the next big site and get rich. I'd do it but I know nothing of programing code except for that C++ class I took in high school got a C+ in which kinda sucks because I was sorta hoping for a C++.
