Corned Beef Fat Soaked Oranges?

I just finished up a nice 7 pound corned beef and I throw some oranges (peeled) in when I'm simmering it.

These oranges soak up 4 hours worth of corned beef fat and other spices in the process. They stay whole but if you look at them funny they just fall apart.

Can't decide if I should eat one......

Do it! It will probably explode in your mouth so may want to let it cool down 1st.

That's one of life's many mysteries. How can something that smells so bad, taste so good? The world may never know.

I love corned beef...thanks to you americans for teaching me how to cook this traditional meal...LOL Never heard/eat it before I came here. It's so yummy! I'll have to try oranges to soack up the fat, that's a first I hear of it. Do you still put the cabbage at the end to cook?

Re: Corned Beef Fat Soaked Oranges?

so...was the whole point of putting the oranges in there to add flavor to the beef or to get the fat out of the pot?
