Re: Help me make poutine.

Velveeta has no place in any acadian kitchen. Sorry. Try again.

Re: Help me make poutine.

Mmmm...meatpie. I make some good ones. I can't believe some stores, either farmers little stores or groceries, sell them for about $15.00 a piece, and they're not even that good. I'd love to find a french canadian place somewhere not too far from us. I even thought for a while to open my own little store and sell mostly exclusively french canadian products such as meat pies, cheese curds, BBQ gravy, some pies, cakes and desserts, candy bars from Quebec (Aero, Coffee Crisp, Cherry Blossom, etc.) and a bunch of other stuff. I don't have the cash to do it tho. I have two ovens so I could bake and/or cook some stuff, but someone told me it is very complicated and costly to go thru all this just to get it approved by FDA to be sold in any store?? Is that true?

Re: Help me make poutine.

Well, if you want to start naming Quebec dishes, go nuts. I hear dirt is good this time of year too.

(they already ruined poutine, i'm not letting them anywhere near my meats!)

Re: Help me make poutine.

Not sure what you're saying here but anyway.

I don't know about acadian dishes, but I certainly know an awful lot about Quebec dishes. Both families on mom and dad sides were awsome cooks, so was my dad (his speciality was game meat, spaghetti sauce, shepperd pies and his Xmas turkey). I'm not too shaby myself I must say.

Acadians in english, Acadiens in french. People from Acadie (or acadia). They have a very strong accent that is difficult to understand. We had a signer from this region, Edith Butler, singer of the song "Pocketville"...I could barely understand anything she was saying. LOL Acadie is in the eastern part of Quebec and the region of the "Maritimes". It's beautiful there, nature all over, very "rough" (not too exploited) land. I'm sure you heard of New Brunswick? You also find acadiens culture in Maine.

Can it be fueled by budgetary constraints and dreams of whimsey?

Frankly, I'd be very concerned if it wasn't.

So it's settled then? We fill a 50 gallon drum with cement blocks and hold our breath till we reach the mermen?

Re: Help me make poutine.

Yeah, we're way past that. Do you want to join the submarine voyage or not?

You have to bring your own cement blocks.

And a fifty gallon barrel.

And snacks.
