Smoke/Carbon Monoxide detectorsAnyone know anything about them and why it would go off in the middle of the night for no reason? For the past 2 nights the smoke alarm has been going off in my house at about 3am..but only goes off for about 10-15 seconds then stops. I know it's not the Carbon Monoxide one because as it's beaping, it also says "fire" (if it for CM, it would say "carbon monixide". Both times I check all 7 detectors in the house and found nothing. It's a hard wired system and they are all linked together. Any thoughts before I get an electrition back in? Thanks |

Re: Smoke/Carbon Monoxide detectorsHave you pulled the covers off and checked for dust in them? The newer systems are a lot more sensitive to things like that than the older ones where. |

Re: Smoke/Carbon Monoxide detectorsCould be a defective detector. I wired in a bunch at my bosses house and had the same problem. I replaced it and everything was good. |

Re: Smoke/Carbon Monoxide detectorsChances are the ones installed are from the recall batch they had. HUGE recall. The only smoke/CO combos that are working good right now are the BRK brand (for now). All of the smokes and CO's must be of same manufacture as well or they wont work together. Fire-X and Kiddie brands are 2 of the big recalls that I know of. |

Re: Smoke/Carbon Monoxide detectorsI install a shit load of carbon monoxide and smoke detectors and we have a high number of defective units. I have more smoke/carbon monoxide detectors go bad than anything else I install. Is it BRK or Kidde? Do you know which detector is triggering the rest? With Firex the unit that sets off the rest will flash the LED faster than normal, I don't know if the other brands do the same thing. There's not much you can do beyond isolating the offender and vacuuming it out and maybe change the battery. I can't think of anything going on at that hour that would set them off, probably just a bad unit. |

Re: Smoke/Carbon Monoxide detectorsBRK I think are the only good ones? Those are sold in boxes colored yellow, black, and white. Firex are discontinued I believe. |

Re: Smoke/Carbon Monoxide detectorsI just switched over from Firex to BRK. I was told Firex had been bought out by Kidde and they are working on the CM detectors, as well as a photo-electric and CM combo unit. |

Re: Smoke/Carbon Monoxide detectorsThe brand is Kiddie. So if these are recalled, where do I go to get them replaced? I don't even have a sale slip for them as they were included with the electrical work done in my house. And is it just the carbon/smoke comboes that are recalled or the single smokes as well? I have 3 combos and 4 single smokes. I have no idea which one is triggering it, it only happens in the middle of the night and it usually stops by the time I get out of bed. Thanks |

Re: Smoke/Carbon Monoxide detectorsjust call em up.... they do charge for the shipping for the new one to you. It is by date of manufacture and the code on it. You have to dispose of the one you own legally as there is radioactive shit in them. |

And yes, Kiddie did buy out Fire-X which is why they are both having the same problems. |
