did you change the gearing? grab a speedohealer.

The speedo and odo. on the bike are electronic. They use the same input pulse from the speed sensor but are independent in their calculations.

My TLS speedo was about 10% high compared to roadside rader and my odo was off pretty close to that compared to interstate milemarkers.

I was looking to replace my wife's 2002 Dodge Neon (urgh) automatic (urgh), so was looking at the VW Golf (Rabbit over here) as a replacement. Smaller, and back in the UK, more efficent. But what I didnt realise here - engine options! No 1.4l petrol, 1.4l diesel - the only option is a 2.5L 170bhp petrol!

Now the more I look at car adverts here, and their specifciations, I'm amazed at two things - the sheer engine size that is seen as 'normal' and the perceived need for huge horsepower, even in boatlike SUVs.
Frankly, I'd love to be able to get some of the smaller, more refined engine designs over here - it's not as if they'd not drop straight into the bodyshells of a lot of the models from the international makes here - many models sold here are also sold overseas with alternate engine options, and far better petrol mileage.

(To put it in perspective, I never owned a car over there with more than 85hp, and 1.4 litre displacement. Even my Landrover (Defender, 110, for towing + work) was a 2.4 diesel making 107hp)

The technology already exists, just let us buy it
Lot's of people complain about cars not getting better mileage, but very few people would be willing to half their HP to double their MPG...it's easier to bitch and hope uncle sam will make it all better.

It makes sense to some idiot in the motorcycle world. It is super annoying that every motorcycle made has an incorrect speedo. If these were cars there would be a class action lawsuit. I verified with my GPS that the speedo was off by 9% and the odometer was dead nuts.

Re: $4.05 a gallon of gas!!

I got almost 27MPG with my last tank on my crappy old '84 Chevy - 350 engine with some very mild mods and A/C too! Regular unleaded at that...

After getting schooled on the TL-R mileage, I figured it out to be getting almost 40MPG when commuting. READ: riding mildly, not wildly...

Got a tick over 25MPG in same car on my way home yesterday with the A/C actually running. Considering it's almost 25 years old and it's got a 350? Not bad...

Re: $4.05 a gallon of gas!!

here is a good site to check gas prices.

I've started using cruise control whenever I get on the highway, depending on traffic conditions, I've been getting 3-5 more mpg.
