Got Wood?

Heh, heh. Got tired of trying to clear cut a parking area with my POS 40cc Crapsmen chainsaw. Just picked up a Husky 455 today (55cc, 3-1/2hp, 3/8" chain). WOOOO!!!

Bwaaaa!!! Yeah, maybe. Although it'd be a bitch dropping trees with it, it'd sure make short work of cutting it to stove-length!

This past weekend, we cleared about 1/8 of an acre. The besterest saw out there was that 350. We had some other small Stihl that held it's own and my little Crapsmen that was only really good for sapplings and limbing summa the smaller stuff. This weekend it'll just be my 455 and my bud's 350. I'm guessing we'll easily match the area in about half the time. All in all, I'm hoping to do another 1/8 acre or so AND get everything we cut to date down to stove-length. And I'm betting now it'll still take less time than we had in last weekend...

I was TOTALLY impressed with the 350. An incredible amount of saw for the size. But given I'll be processing about 6-8 cord a year, I decided the step up was necessary. And that figure isn't taking into consideration the acre or so of clearing I'm doing for parking trailers nor does it equate the trails I'll be cutting. But yeah, the 350 is definitely hearty enough for most homeowners/landowners. You'll be happy with it...

yeah your needs surpass mine for sure. i figure if i take care of it it will last a long time. did you happen to notice on your buddy's 350 how much bar oil it went though? my chain seems real dry and after about a tank of gas the leval has hardly dropped.

Ya know, he DID mention that the auto oiler was very picky. Said something about mistakenly getting oil once that was too thick and it wouldn't oil. Sounds like you know already, but general rule of thumb is one tank of bar lube to every tank of gas...

You can check it by pointing the tip of the bar at something light colored and running 'er WFO for about 60 seconds. Obviously, you should see a nice line of oil on the light surface. Also, not sure on the 350 - but you can adjust the oiler on mine. In fact, in my manual they have a formula for the adjustment for different types of oil...

Shoulda' bought a Stihl...

Faster cutting, higher engine rpm, dual piston rings vs. single...

...and I'm a Stihl dealer. Gotta have a little bit of loyalty.

Again, not sure on yours, but mine has an adjustment screw just under the erl tank. Mine's pretty clearly marked. See if yours has one. Also, make sure the groove on the bar is clean and has NO debris clogging it up. In fact, you should pull apart the brake cover and clean the shit outta everything in there...

Who should I pay my loyalty too? You're talking to the wrong guy about brand-loyalty (2 Arctic Cats, a Yamaha, a Suzuki, a Chevy, a Nissan, a Volvo and a Glastron). That oughta give you at least an idea of how 'loyal' I am. You should sell Huskys. I tried two different Stihls and just didn't like the way they felt. I guess when you get into this class of saws though, each has their own. There's not much difference at this level. Just personal preference at this point. Plus I've got a Husky dealer 3 miles from my house and one 1/2 mile from my shop helped my decision too...

faster cutting? i think not

higher engine rpm? are we comparing apple to oranges? a homeowner saw (455) vers a pro saw

as i recall the husky has a better warranty?

what kind of deal can you doo on a MS361?

iv'e been thinking about getting a small saw either a MS361, husky 359 or a dolan 5100?

btw: the 455 makes a great homeowner saw.

be careful the 3/8 pitch chain cuts at a little more than 200 stiches a second

I've tried them all and have always prefered Husqvarna and Jonsered.

I got a full-coverage 2 year on mine, with 1 free 'tune-up' each year. That may have more to do with the dealership than with Husky though. Can't say for sure...

Sure enough is! About 3 miles from Johnsons, up behind it off of Ridge Road Top (or Ridge Top Road to you Massholes). If you were up that way on your sled, you may have very well gone right past it...

Ya fuggin' punk! Lemme know next time you're up!

The land: Take Ridge Rd up behind Johnson's. About the top of the hill, take Ridge Road Top on your left. It's across from Prospect Mtn. Road. Then take a right on Jenkins. When Jenkins looks like it possibly stops being a 'real' road, there's a goat-path of a road on the left. It's not marked, but that's Libby Rd. We're about 1/4 mile down on the right....
