I beg to differ on this one. My wife has been riding and boarding for over 25 years and doesn't talk like this. In fact, she's more sensitive about a woman talking trash than I am.

I was referring more to phrases such as "you goddamn mother fucking sonnovabitch" than anything else... and everyone at the barn jokes around about cowgirls, riding things, cleaning sheaths, why your horse is better than your mate (list similar to why a motorcycle is better than a mate)


I'm guessing (and I could be wrong) that your wife rides either english, dressage, or huntseat... those there folks are proper horsefolk... they wear the funny pants and tallboots, almost always wear helmets, rarely hop on bareback for a run, and frequently have trainers.

There's horse people of 2 distinct varieties.... those that pleasure ride (as above) and those that hop on and hang on.

Pleasure rider - get someone else to ride their horse when it is acting up badly.
Other - hopes the horse will act badly so they can pretend like they are in a bronc show.
Pleasure rider - Walks, trots, and controlled canters down trails
Other - full breakneck speed bikers and dog walkers be damned (frequently lost fight against tree branches)

Yep, that's her. All of the above. Hunter-Jumper, Eventing. She recently starting using a trainer, but has broken her horse by herself and has never asked someone else to ride her horse when she acts up.

However, she fits into both the pleasure and other categories as I have seen her go balls out on her filly. I guess you have to in order to get them to go through a cross-country course.
