Re: A little story about my car (STI)

Right now, Subaru's are at the top of my list for a new vehicle. But $36K for an STI??

I was looking at the Legacy, which looks to run in the mid 20's. I'm bummed that it's hard to find a 5 speed Legacy that's loaded though.

a few factory options and the sti can get over $40k

Re: A little story about my car (STI)

Let's hope that neither the STi or the Evo go the route that the Supra/All-Trac did.... continuously have their prices increased until no one could afford them.

$40k for a Subaru is just plain ridiculous. The fit, finish and performance doesn't justify the price tag.

It is an 05 with 70k miles on it. it gets driven a lot , and HARD, but I take good care of it, and she usually treats me pretty well.

11.49 and faster and you need a cage at epping, so my "goal" is to get tossed

I bet that thing is a blast to drive on dirt and snow. We had so much fun toying around two winters ago in my buddy's Audi S4 Quattro. then he went and totaled it

Subaru has come a long way since the Brat you know.

I had an 05 Legacy GT wagon that pretty much smoked Mustangs, paced the new GTO and I could still fit my dog and 4 of my friends in it.

Did the JDM suspension swap and that thing handled like it was on rails.

Fit and finish was very good, IMO.

Got exactly what I paid for it a year later.

I also had a lightly massaged 2001 2.5 RS that kept up with or blew away many 6 cyl cars...and that was a basic N/A 2.5 flat 4. The 8 cyl cars were just a bit out of its league but it was funny to always get the jump and go about 50 feet before being reeled in.

<sigh>

Good times...

My only problem with my 07 WRX Limited is the paint. It sucks. Look at it the wrong way and it chips. As far as value for the dollar it can't be beat. I wanted a 4 door car with AWD, heated seats and decent performance. It came down to the BMW three series and the WRX. I couldn't justify spending the extra 10 grand on the BMW.

Re: A little story about my car (STI)

The new STi is a huge step in the direction of interior quality. The other stuff, I could take it or leave it. I'd argue that their overall quality is on par with other Japanese companies, perhaps a little lower.

I think that the new Evo has more technology than the STi but both are priced beyond the budget of the kid who's an enthusiast that overlooks quality for performance.

The new 1 series could take the cake but I have yet to drive one. I've driven a few tuned 335s and I find them to be a step in the right direction but still not as sharp a scalpel for track use or sport driving as the STI or Evo. Probably a better daily driver though.. and sure enough the engines will last 100k without spinning a rod bearing.

I agree that the new sti is ALOT nicer, but damn, when you start talking 40k, it better have an audi or bmw badge on the front for that kinda money....

70k miles later, my paint has definitely seen better days

Re: A little story about my car (STI)

I can't speak to anything from 07 or newer but even the 06's had a squeaky and shoddy built interior compared to a three series. The legacies are nice but still pale in comparison to some of the german cars in regards to fit and finish.

I had a similar RS.... except that at 50 feet I continued to keep pulling away. Sold it earlier this year. I miss her a bit but it will be nice to start running a bike up at Loudon instead of a car.

I drive an '03 Evo when I'm not riding the bike. Poor fit and finish, drivetrain issues, quality issues, paint issues. It's the last mitsu I'll ever purchase.

Re: A little story about my car (STI)

Pretty sure I posted Dyno plots earlier

425 wheel hp

and 420 wheel ft / lbs

SUPPOSEDLY, I pick it up tomorrow, then I gotta break it in, then go back down to get re-tuned.

Get the manual one. As slick as the auto shift may be, it's still a traditional automatic. I also think the car gets factory de-tuned if you get the auto.
