Anty Em, Anty Em

I just read there was a tornado warning today in New Hampshire.

This is ironic because I was just thinking to myself the other day I have no clue what to do in case of a tornado. The fact is I am more worried about the horses and my other animals!

Anyone in here been in one? I've been reading up on them on FEMA and Red Cross, with them saying what to do in case of one.

That shits scary!

Re: Anty Em, Anty Em

I grew up in Ohio and we had regular tornado drills in school... at home we had a plan on where in the basement to go too.

When I was about 13 we had a tornado go through my town. It tore up a nice path about 5 miles from my house. Luckily no damage to my neighborhood.

A tornado in New England? That would be some unprecedented stuff in my time.

There was a warning of one near our home about a week ago or two. In the Berkshires area...I remember on that day the winds were very strong and knock a few things over in our backyard, including one of our BBQ grills.

Hopefully the Red Cross and FEMA have updated their instructions. It used to be get under a table or climb in a tub. Now that tables are often laminated particle board and tubs are fiberglass they aren't nearly as safe. I'd head for the basement, away from any windows and under the main beam of the house.

Western MA gets some smaller ones every few years or so. In the mid to late 1990's, a tornado destroyed a chairlift at Mt. Tom which helped contribute to the demise of the ski area.

I may have been thinking Butternut but said Mt. Tom. I was much younger then.

I remember being at a track meet in Plymouth in 1998 and a little cyclone came along and picked up all the hurdles and threw them about 50 yards away. It looks like the apocolypse in Merrimack right now. Its pitch black outside.

there was one in wrentham/franklin area a couple of years ago... It was a rainy day, a small group of us were heading from a stunt show in ashland back towards RI. We hoped on a back road near ext. 16 of 495 and there was a downed tree and people walking around. They said we missed it by like 45mins...

Thats an issue because I live in a log cabin that only has a crawl space underneath! I only have a shower stall. I would beat tracks to the barn I guess, if I knew it was coming. I don't usually have the tv or the radio on when I am home.

Hopefully it will just not happen. I think Wind scares me the most out of all the elements.
