At least they're RIDING into the city & RIDING from the city, what's so wrong about hanging out with other friends that ride while you're IN the city?

Mark, you've never ridden the 1098 to a buddy's house to hang out?

This thread sucks.

To be 100% honest, I've never ridden my bike somewhere without the intention of actually riding it, and again, this is just my 2 cents. To each their own when it comes to doing anything in life. Just because I think posing is gay doesn't mean anything. Some people may like it, but I just don't understand it. I was talking to a friend recently about this subject and we recognized that if we actually wanted to drive in the city and meet up with people to hang out it would be at a bar or club and there would be drinking involved most likely. I just don't get driving into the city and sitting on my bike on some side walk just to talk with other guys/girls. Why do it on a corner? I'm also not from the city so that may also contribute to my not understanding of this whole thing. It also could be the age I'm at in life though too. When I lived in Hawaii back in 90-94 we used to drive our bikes down to waikiki and pose on the sidewalk with the full intention of using our bikes to pick up tourist women...and it worked all the time......+

And this thread doesn't suck either. I think any thread with opinions and debating is interesting..

I would play both sides of the fence on this thread...

I like goin to newbury as I meet new people/it's close to me. I assumed if I go a few times then I will find some people to ride with possibly (really ride). Also, I am not sure of secret rides but I haven't been able to track down a real fun ride with people on the site yet...that is half due to weather conditions though and not necessarily elitists/douchebag-ism.

Re: Should we change the forum name to NEPR? (New England Posing Riders)

Eh, you're right... the discussion IS interesting.

I guess I experience more to riding, then... I ride to work in the city, I ride to the hardware store, I ride to my girlfriend's, I ride to restaurants, etc etc... shit, I even ride to the supermarket.

I'll also ride 3-400 miles in a day to nowhere in particular on some of the best roads in MA, NH, ME and VT as well as up to the race track where I beat the snot outta my bikes all damn day.

I don't see the problem with anyone wanting to ride into the city to hang out w/ other riders that they've made friends with.

I also don't really consider what we do "posing"... when I think of posing I think of a bunch of guys standing around next to their low-mile, big chicken strip bikes tryin to look cool, saying a whole bunch of nothing while waiting for chicks to walk up to them... that's not what the people from NESR are doing. At least I'm not.

Now that I think of it, what we do is an awful lot like what you do in the bars with your friends but w/o the alcohol... which means we can take the bike.

It's funny... sometimes I feel like I'm posing when I'm riding more-so than when I'm "posing" on Newbury St... Like when I'm stopped at a red light just sitting there on my bike... and people are just kinda lookin at ya... and ya get that feeling like they expect you to do something "cool" like rev the piss out of the engine, do a burnout & wheelie off into the sunset... I don't get that feeling when I'm actually ON Newbury St.

Yeah, I would definitely say that there have been fewer organized NESR rides this season than in season's past.

I think the whole "secret ride" thing has been gaining popularity due to the growth of the member population.

I've only posted up one real group ride this year so far... usually I post more group rides than that.

Re: Should we change the forum name to NEPR? (New England Posing Riders)

I'd like the hookup on some of these super secret rides. It's been damn quiet with rides in the North Shore area lately (with exception to Schleppy and a few others) If the riding is beyond my ability I'll take back of the pack. (I haven't gone on any rides yet where it was - though I haven't gone on that many rides)

PM me dammit!

Share the love.

You free weekday mornings? I usually go for a late morning/early afternoon rip with Nick (ff36buell) around Topsfield, Boxford etc.

Andover MA.... 5 mins off 93 (the 125 exit)
I'd be down for that on occassion! Sometimes I use it to my advantage to get up to Alton NH before traffic so I can play in the dirt before it gets dark but when I'm not doing that I'd love to meet up with you guys!

same here. my bike IS my vehicle. that means i ride(rode) it to school, ride it to work, ride it to a friends house, and when i can, go out and just ride it. another thing is despite it being called a newbury "pose", its more of just a biker meetup/hangout. just a nice little social event for everyone

Re: Should we change the forum name to NEPR? (New England Posing Riders)

I'm guilty of "posing" (the NESR and Lowell bike night kind, not the picking up chicks kind). I have found it to be a good way to meet people, both in real life and from the forum. However, a bike is meant to be ridden, and I ride as often as possible. To each his own, though I will admit I am skeptical of people with an 80% chrome bike with an extended swingarm, custom paint job, no gear to speak of and enough toys, gadgets and flashing gizmos to make the bike slower rather than faster. But, skeptical as I may be of their riding abilities, who's to say they don't have a riding bike at home, and that is just their "posing" bike? Whatever, at least they have one or two or three.....
