gun range, 2nd degree burn

...went today for the first time in 3 years. I went while in AF training, which was much more involved training. Anyway, I forget the specifics of the gun but remember the general stance, etc. So I'm shooting and a friggin shell goes down my shirt.

After the sizzling hot shell goes from my bra to stuck under my shirt, and shimmies down into my pants, the attendant dude yells at me for shimmying around. I go to the bathroom to change my shirt around (was a v neck) and have a nice welt on my abdomen with a sweet blister.

The story sounded better in my head, but lesson learned: wear a long sleeved, crew neck shirt (i have welts on my arms too from the shells) and bring an ice pack just in case you get burned

Except for the getting burned part it sounds like something you might see at a Gentlemans Club....sorry I missed it!

Maybe you should wear full leathers next time you go...

Was this at Smith and Wesson?

Re: gun range, 2nd degree burn

with the path of travel that your shell took, you're lucky the only battlescar will be on your abdomen. was that at the S&W up in springfield? i haven't been there in a while... been meaning to find an excuse to visit.

Re: gun range, 2nd degree burn

S&W does have a nice range, and they let you shoot just about anything they make (if the armorer's have the stuff there).

Just imagine getting the hot brass while wearing full swat armor, all the shimmying doesn't get it out....not fun.

Re: gun range, 2nd degree burn

definitely didn't know s&w had an open range - can anyone give me more info on this?

my primary carry is a s&w 1911PD tactical, and there's a few more s&w .40s & a .50 kicking around the house too...does that qualify me?

Re: gun range, 2nd degree burn

I was wearing flip flops...but brought in sneakers if they made me change. Not necessary.

Thought about pics...but then that at least 2nd base and I haven't been there in a while, didn't want to lose it to NESR.

I think it was a 9mm. and i'm totally wearing full leathers next time. After I got burned a 1/2 dozen times they finally stepped up and changed my positioning.

...hey, i got a cool little scar.

and ya, Smith and Wesson. Anyone can go, 2 forms of ID. no illegals. sorry. lol jk

Re: gun range, 2nd degree burn

i didn't even know they let the chair force use live ammo.

what i want to know is how the hell were you standing to burn yourself that many times? i've caught some hot brass before but it was always from the guy to my left... M-16s fling those things pretty far.

although i did have an old walther p-38 that ejected straight up. the shells would hit the tin roof at our outdoor range and bounce back down on your head.

Re: gun range, 2nd degree burn

A 9mm? Sensative skin I guess. All shells are hot. I have had them go down my collar, into my sleeve on my shooting jacket, and land on my legs when I shot in shorts.
I have 2 M1 carbines that eject right into your forehead. When I take them to the range I end up with a bunch of semi-circle cuts. I believe that is due to a worn ejector and I havent bothered to change them.

Not sure how you've avoided 2nd base...you ride...fairly proficient (so it seems) with a piece...avatar looks good to me... something's amiss??

At least you have a story behind the scar. All of my scars and burns are work related and I forget exactly how I got them

Re: gun range, 2nd degree burn

well that sucks! When I take a girl shooting for the first time I don't let them wear anything low-cut and give them a hat as well. A lot of new shooters that I have taken seemed to flinch and limp wrist it and the shells would just come straight back.

and the jackass RO should have recognized the "I gotta hot shell in my bra" dance

I had to shoot the 9 mil to qualify for the Air Guard back in Jan when we had a cold snap ( In the teens ) and let me say. Happiness was a warm gun that day.

And lucky it didn't go down your bra.. Or were you going commando?

Sadly Kurt your story isn't half as hot as Adrenalinechic's.....at least visually-wise.

Re: gun range, 2nd degree burn

the first time I took my girlfriend to the range, she too was wearing a v neck shirt and one of the .22 casings ejected right down into her cleavage. She had a burn mark on each breast where the casing came to rest (sorry guys, no pics of the wounds). She's never worn anything even slightly revealing to the range since.

Re: gun range, 2nd degree burn

I happily am a long time shooter. My sister on the other hand. She lives in cali. and wanted to rid herself of the fear of guns she had/has. Went to a certified class to my understanding with her best friend. On her second time at shooting, with wall to her right, she took hot brass down her shirt. Not knowing what was happening and in a panic, she decided to release a 9mm round down through her left knee and exit it through her shin. 2 days before 9/11. She has no "timely" knowledge of the twin towers going down except for video and she has after surgeries been able to hike and do regular stuff. My only beef........She blames the fucking gun and the instructor! Yes, she's my sister but hell, the trigger didn't pull itself. Be careful people or you'll help the anti's. Don't become a statistic due to complacency or ignorance.

it did go down my bra....i shimmied it down to my upper abd.

i didnt have my finger on the trigger when i was dancing...it was around that other little hard part that protects the trigger. you had to have a grip on it too in order to actually shoot.

next time, i'll be better and maybe hit the target
