Re: plumbing question?

I have water proofing kilz paint

I set it all up and looked at it and its gonna be fine. the chrome piece is the exact same way in the other bathroom and i never noticed it til now so its no big deal.

hopefully i will only be looking at it for 300 days. I plan on moving by this time next year.!

B i wanted to go with a shower unit. but we are limited to a budget we have already exceeded. so whatever we have is gonna have to work.

I forgot to ask about a running sink, but i just bought a new fixture for it yesterday so it should be fine.

Are you talking about the 2" between the handle and the plate? You are supposed to be able to see that chrome sleeve between them. If you bury the valve farther in the wall the screws won't reach the valve to hold the plate on and the handle could rub against the plate. If you want me to move it back the most you would gain would be an inch. I wouldn't charge you for it but there isn't any point in doing it.

Oh and run a 2x4 or something behind that and strap the pipes to it. It will make less banging when you turn the water off.
There are plenty of clips on it. If he pulls on it hard enough he will take the wall down. Hell, I even added clips on the lines feeding that bathroom because there was so much water hammer.

Occupation:
Engineer

That explains a lot

I was just kidding about the tub. Faucets are easy and you should be able to do it yourself in about 1/2 an hour. If you need to borrow a basin wrench let me know or if you want I could do it for you. A 12 pack of Sam Light would cover the labor

Re: plumbing question?

Kilz is normally for something that is already gotten wet and you use that to kill the mold in the drywall. then again I didnt know kilz makes waterproofing paint.

FYI in the future just use durarock or cement board.

This is totally wrong. The plate and the escushion are supposed to meet. The handle should move independently and will not scuff the plate. Once you screw in the wall board you will not be able to fix this and neigher will the next owner. You need to think about the next guy.

Tell me what brand that is and I'll pull the pdf. The escushion almost looks like a Newport.

Hmmm....How many shower valves have you installed? Because in the past 7 years I have installed a few thousand of them, this being one of them. The handle will move independently from all the other trim but if it is too close they will rub because of the give in the plastic stem that the handle is attached to. I can tell you have no idea what you are talking about if you think that is a Newport Brass valve. Look at the chrome sleeve, the squared off section on the top is the temperature limit. Newport doesn't use that type of setup. There are a few that do though (Moen, American Standard, Kohler...). He also said he was on a budget so why would he be putting a $300+ shower valve in? If you really want to look it up go for it, it's a Moen valve. I fucking hate engineers.

Putting shower heads in since 1976, 15 years forced labor. I could tell from your comments that you would not be considered a first class plumber by anyone I worked with, and I wouldn't let you work on my house even for free. He has plenty of room to move that back and he should. I'm sure if you are the craftsman you make yourself sound like then you were taught to think of the next guy who has to work on/repair that head or may have to live with it. Having the externals stick out or building the walls up is a cob job.

Not here to argue with

Ya that says a lot right there. Shower heads, are you fucking kidding me?

Lets think about the next guy for a minute. When that stem needs to be replaced and you drop the horse shoe clip down the wall because it was buried too deep are you going to be happy with the guy that put it in? Or how about when the stem snaps off flush with the valve and you can't pry it out because the guy that installed it put it too far back, are you going to be happy with him then? I guess my craftsmanship wasn't good enough for the $600K- million dollar homes I've done in North Andover, Grafton, Middleton... Or the $700K- million dollar condo's I've done in Stow, Chelsea, Everett, Byfield.... Was the multi-million dollar BMW service station on Centennial Drive in Peabody to good for my craftsmanship? I guess Lowell General hospital and Saints Memorial hospital deserves better too. Maybe I should call up every inspector that has told me how good my work is so I can tell them that are dead wrong because some guy that has put in a bunch of shower heads said so. Go back and look at the picture. It would have been easier for me to leave it farther back in the wall, I offset it closer for a reason. But what do I know? I haven't been putting in shower heads since 1976.
