caution: rant approaching. this is not directed at anyone on the board, but it was easier to type using "you".

i like to smoke. i quit for a year for financial reasons, but i actually like to smoke and went back once things settled. i don't smoke most of the day at work. i don't feel the need to do it & i don't want to waste the time during my workday. it doesn't bother me if i don't smoke for a week or more - it's not important to me, i just like it. it's not even the smoking part - i think it's more the action and keeping my hand busy. i'll go 10-15 minutes sometimes just holding a cig without actually lighting it.

and i honestly could care less what other people think. don't like it? go screw. fucking non-smokers with their self-righteous attitudes thinking they know what's right and holy and what others should do. don't care what you think. really. not doing this to impress you. don't want to smoke? don't. good for you. it's an expensive hobby and it'll probably kill you. gold star for you and your decision. these same people do different things that bother other people, but if another person said something you'd be all up in arms about "who are you to give me shit or tell me what i should and shouldn't do?"...well, exactly.

take pot, for example. i hate pot. i find the smell repulsive, and i despise the way people act when they're high, sitting around staring at walls and just being useless puddles on the floor. want to see what "looking like an idiot" really is? it's staring at a stop sign waiting for it to turn green. trying to relate the world's problems to a roll of toilet paper. eating junk and watching TV for 4 hours cause you're too high to do anything else. but hey, guess what? i'll never tell someone they shouldn't do it. it's their choice. if i don't like it, that's my problem - not theirs. i leave the room when people smoke pot, and i come back after. that's my choice.

what if i really like someone but hate that they smoke pot? too bad for me. i either get over it, or move on. if they asked, i'd tell them why. and if they stopped? great - i'd be delighted. i'll never say "hey, can you stop smoking pot for me?" and expect them to.

if i met a girl that i was really into, and the only thing holding her back was my smoking, then i'd quit on the spot. no question. done it before, and i'd do it again. if she was more important than the enjoyment i got from smoking, then i'd stop. but to prejudge and decide without giving someone a chance? lame.

in case anyone forgot: racing at high speeds around a track is expensive, inherently dangerous, and arguably a poor decision from a health perspective. i'm sure nobody here will ever tell you to stop attending track days. and why should they? you enjoy it, go for it. do it. live it up. but smoking...OH NO...so bad for you! what are you thinking?? well, i enjoy it and would love to not be chastised by the non-smoking elitists for my own personal decision.

back on topic: $7/pack sucks. to NH i go!

My biggest problem with smokers is that most have a selfish disregard for others. If you're not an offender of the items on the list below, feel free to enjoy your habit as it doesn't bother me.

• Smoking cagers don't care who else is in the vehicle, even children.
• Smokers toss their butts out the window with no concern about whether it might hit someone else or who will clean it up.
• Smokers will empty an ashtray in a parking lot, again with no concern about who will clean it up.
• Smokers don't like the smell so will smoke in "non-smoking" hotel rooms and rent "non-smoking" cars so the rest of us have to deal with the stench.
