Look what I just bought...

I had promised my oldest daughter that she would get her big wish, an electric guitar, if she would bring me home a good report card with good behavior....well she did. All A's & B's, all with good behavior comments from her teachers. Since I never make a promise without intent to keep it...I went on a quest to find her a GOOD guitar, one with good sound, good quality and well made. That will be her first, and hopefully if she really loves it and get into it seriously, it will always be her "first" that she can keep as she grow older.

I bought her a Daisy Rock "Stardust Elite Classic", Violet Burst. This is the link to the company making it, and a video with sound demo: Daisy Rock Guitars | Stardust Elite Classic

I bought it from Ebay: Daisy Rock Violet Burst Stardust Elite Classic Guitar - eBay (item 270251058797 end time Jul-03-08 17:32:52 PDT)

When we get the guitar, we will go to some shop to get her an amp, a strap, a guitar case, etc.

If any of you have a suggestion on which amp to get her, I'd appreciate it. I have no clue what I'm doing here...LOL I have a gorgeous acoustic Ibanez, red/fire yellow with hummingbirds, old from the early 70's, that my dad gave me...I wish I knew how to play.

First link I posted, watch the whole video (last maybe one minute), I think the sound of that guitar is AWSOME, the variations with the possible sounds...wow. Clearer sound, or more "aggressive" low tone...eventually maybe she will play like that chick.

Those guitars can't be bad, Miley Cyrrus is one of the many artists who own one.

Well I searched online a lot, read reviews, listened to demos, etc. and that was one of the best by far, in the price range I wanted to pay. I wanted the black one for her...she's got a half part of her that is tomboy...but I know that when she sees it, she will probably have tears of joy...I know she will be crazy in love with it. She's been asking for one for so long...but they are not cheap! I didn't want to buy her a "toy" guitar, know what I mean? I wanted something that she could keep as a precious souvenir, her "first" guitar that will last over the years. I'll still have to dish out another $100 or so on a guitar case, amp and strap...*sigh*

Dont go too overboard on an amp until she dedicates herself. Something like this will do the trick:

Behringer 15W Guitar Amp - VTone GM108 - eBay (item 280242662243 end time Jul-10-08 17:52:00 PDT)

Behringer is a good name. Its what I use for my show setup.

Re: Look what I just bought...

I might have an old Peavy amp laying around that I would be willing to donate for the cause. Ill take a look around my house tomorrow, no promises, it may've been put out to pasture a long time ago though.

And skip the case for now and just buy a stand if you have room to keep it out all the time. I have more cases under my bed cause its more of a pain in the ass to get the guitar in and out of them everytime, plus theres more of a chance she'll keep with it if the guitars in sight and not shoved in a case in the closet

Re: Look what I just bought...

An amp like this one here is all she will need to get started. Fender is a good name brand. This has the clean sound plus a gain(distortion) for the aggressive sound. When you go to a shop, you can try them out or have the sales guy jam it so you can hear it. The amp I suggested has a 6 inch speaker. This may be loud enough, but if not, try one out that has an 8 or 10 inch speaker. I wouldn't spend more than $100 on the amp.

Very nice choice of guitar! How old is your daughter if I may ask? Younger children tend to pick up musical instruments and language better - kudos to you fo starting them off young!

Push her into taking lessons and learning to read music. It'll keep her interested and also open up a whole new world for her.

Re: Look what I just bought...

She's 12, going on 13 on August 22nd. I will follow some of your advices; will keep her guitar on a stand, except when she has friends over, it will go in it's case...that guitar is a gem, I don't want anyone to mess up with it, it's not a toy. Depending on guitar lessons price, I would definitly put her in them, but one of her girl friends father already offered to teach her. Not sure if he was really serious about it but I will ask him.

She already started reading some guitar notes in school, her teacher showed her a few things, but I trust someone else will do a better job than him, he's a bit on the granola side of music... she wants to learn to play hard stuff..

I'm a music freak....if my daughter was to become an awsome player...I'd be in heaven. She already has a few friends who play drums and electric guitar...maybe they will be the next big thing...hehe.

You always can learn from the classics. I am so glad now that I was made to take piano lessons, then played saxaphone in school. I was a band geek and jock! Nice combo.

I love that guitar! Makes me want one. I would say get her someone serious, real lessons, to start off with so that she can see improvment and not get frustrated. my $0.02. I have tried taken lessons from friends and it can be frustrating sometimes because even though they can play, doesn't mean they can teach.

Good to get them started young. My nephew started playing guitar last fall and he can already play difficult Metallica guitar pieces. He can also play pretty much by ear, so he's heading in the right direction.
