So yeah. I work till 5pm, I smashed my Razr into about a 1000 microscopic pieces wednesday, and said oh hell, the new iPhone comes out friday, I'll just use this shitty 4 year old Samsung phone I have laying around until then, no biggy. So I call all the local stores after work, all sold out about 10am, no surprise. Take a chance and drive 30 minutes down to the Holyoke Mall to the Apple store.

Proceed to stand in line for about an hour and 40 minutes with a bunch of random people and bitch about how long of a wait it is and how stupid this in-store registration was. So, my turn finally comes up, I get to enter the magical world of Apple with all their slim laptops, iPods and accessories, and the creme de la creme, the iPhone. So, yadda yadda, the guy gets me all set up with my fancy new iPhone, joy. He activates it and brings me to a pc in the store so I can register it on iTunes. I decline and he waits to see the service kick on. Well, service came on, but no bars showed up. Enough to make a call, so I said F it, I'm in a mall, how good can service possibly be? Say thanks to the guy, throw it back in the box, and walk out.

Get to my car.........."no service". Ok, what the fuck. Drive home........no service. Came on intermittently with 1 bar for about 12 seconds a few times on the way home.

So now here I sit, less than a half mile from an AT&T cell tower with a new $250 calculator that tells me "NO SERVICE". Yes, I actually had to make an appointment with them to go back tomorrow so they can "fix" my new phone. And by "fix", they are giving me another one, or several other ones until I walk out of there with consistent service on my phone. Going to be coolest thing ever if/when it works, but for now........complete and utter shit.

LOl that sucks! I have one of the olders ones and have been debating if i should get the new one today. Decided not to. My iphone is the shit. Unlocked and fully customizable. Why pay for shit that I can get for free. And from what i hear At&T 3g network isnt as great as sprints ( i hate to admit that cuz i hate sprint/nextel) After u get a new phone and its working properly and u can start to learn more about what ur iphone can do im sure ull be happy with it.

Yeah, I've heard from daviid on here that there are some hardware issues in my area, along with the new software is apparently a problem too. I'll try backdating it to the original iphone software maybe until it clears up? I swapped the sim card into another phone and it worked just fine, so its definitely the phone with issues.

I just had a chance to look on Itunes at some of the applications that are available for puchase with the new phone and old phones with the 2.0 upgrade.. HELL NO.

I would wager that about 60- 70% of the programs that people are buying, I can get for free just by pushing a button to unlock the 1.1.4 version phones. I read a long while back that the new phones wouldnt be able to run older software and that the older phones upgraded to the 2.0 were going to be turned into expensive paper weights if they were unlocked using old methods.
I'm leaving my iphone just the way it is and spend 200 on strippers instead of a new phone.

They gave me a new phone, service still didnt work. Turned out to be a bum sim card, which is odd because it worked in other phones. Oh well. Its working now and its FUCKING AMAZING. SCHWING!

Another reason I refuse to buy stuff like that on launch day. I hate paying a company to test their products.

Yup. Hour of waiting on hold for Apple to say "There is no way to fix it, but we can sell you a regular iPhone for $199 or you can get the new one for the same price."

I'll just go back to using a crappy old cell phone.
