Quick internet search --

K&N cold air intake - $321.75
Magnaflow exhaust - $588
Hypertech chip - $380

Total investment -- $1289.75

The air intake alone should be good for 2 mpg.
And with the Hypertech, you can adjust all kinds of things like tranny shift points, shift firmness, etc.

I haven't had a payment in close to 4 years and I think I'll be buying a new vehicle next spring. The Jeep needs to make it through just 1 more winter.

not trying to be a douche, but the k&n kinda blows and Hypertech blows. I have a Vararam intake which is only available for hemi but there are others much better than the K&N for your truck. Also Superchips is much better than Hypertech and there might be Diablo or SCT available as well (not sure for GM).

Re: NEW Denno-Mobile!

i got to laugh at anyone who thinks all those cold air/spacers kits do shit at all. they might help a little and i mean little. i had an 97 v6 s-10 and a 03 z71 with a 5.3 and i put all that shit on both. power increased a little mpg not at all.

if the factory could get two more mpg by adding there own plastic spacer they would have done it them selfs. that would be a great selling point especially now a days.

gm has the best mpg i've seen. my z71 adv 16.5 while my 07 f150 gets 11 around town 14 highway.

Re: NEW Denno-Mobile!

ya I agree for the most part most of them won't do shit. But some do perform better than stock because they do design baffles and such so the intake isn't loud and it is very restrictive in most cases from the factory. I tested my Vararam vs my stock truck intake and it was a consistent .3 to .4 seconds faster 0-60. That is a big difference for a big heavy vehicle.

My advice is if you want an intake that isn't expensive get one of the cheaper/ebay intakes that are 75 bucks and basically same as the K&N and just buy a 50 dollar Amsoil air filter to go on the end.

OK OK. So the K&N sucks. Like I said, quick internet search. I have an 06 Dodge 2500 MegaCab with the diesel, AEM Brute Force intake, and Edge with Attitude controller. On my truck, the intake was good for 2mpg around town, 4-5 interstate.

What about the air filter and the other fittings you forgot to mention.
It is a two thousand dollar job when you are done with it.

Plus as was mentioned by several peeps here, does squat for mileage.

The main reason is if you give yourself more power, you will use more power by sticking your foot to the floor.

Then the math ... 2000/80 bucks per tankful equals 25 tankfuls of gas.

at a 2 to 3 mpg increase ( I will believe it only when I see it ) the payback period is over 8 years if he keeps the truck that long.

Re: NEW Denno-Mobile!

Nice truck. I bet you got a good deal on it because of gas prices. I'm sure it hurts the market for big v8 trucks. I've been thinking about getting a truck too but would probably steer toward a v6. I'd keep it stock for now, adding a chip will most likely void your warranty. Just a thought.

a diesel tune is a whole other ballgame. we are talking gas. i agree a good tuner on your cummings does wonders for power.

They are just programmers which you can set tunes on the truck. Just be sure to set the computer back to 'stock' before you do any dealer trips and you won't have trouble with the warranty.

Also Jay, Im not sure if you meant fullsize or midsize truck but definitely don't go with a v6 in the fullsize cuz you'll end up getting very similar gas mileage since the little motor has to work so hard to move around 5,000+ lbs

Re: NEW Denno-Mobile!

When I had my 04 2500HD, I put a Westers computer in it and I gained 2mpg with that. Another 1mpg with some cheap no named brand open airbox/filter kit. Mine had the big block 8.1L and when I first got it, I was getting about 11mpg. When I sold it last year, I was getting 14mpg pretty much every tank...and at one point I was getting close to 16 on a all highway trip. Westers claimed their computer made 385hp and 505ftlbs of torque with the setup I had

It's conversations like this that get very expensive for Noel and his new F-150...

Either that or something is very wrong with your truck. I got my F-150 Super Crew a month ago. Granted, I've mostly driven it like a pussy but, I have not gotten under 17 MPG on a tank of fuel yet. On a recent trip to southern Jersey, I got just a c-hair under 20 MPG out of the first tank. That was with the A/C running for the second half, and a 800lb motorcycle, in a crate, as cargo.
