Re: wisdom teeth removal.... owww..

I was out of commission for 4 days when mine were taken out because the teeth hadn't surfaced so they had to cut into my gums.

Oxycodone never really did much for me for pain, it's more a recreational thing for a lot of people.

Re: wisdom teeth removal.... owww..

I had mine out on a Thursday and I was back to work on Monday. It does suck. Three of mine were impacted and one was really deep so they had a lot of digging. I remember sitting in the chair the doc asking me a question and then waking up in a different room. I did have to go back a second time because part of my jaw bone was poking through. It was a weird feeling to have someone filing down you bone.

Oh two days of jello and I had enough. Went to burgers by Sunday

Re: wisdom teeth removal.... owww..

I only had 3 wisdom teeth. (guess I'm not very wise) I ended up developing dry sockets in two of them post-removal. Talk about pain, not even the percs took that away. I ended up going back to the ortho who did the surgery so he could stuff the sockets with novocaine.

Re: wisdom teeth removal.... owww..

I have 2 questions.

1
one were you awake for the procedure? (if not you missed out on one of the creepiest times of your life, I fucking loved it. nothing like hearing the sound of your teeth being crushed with pliers and laughing your ass off)

2
if you have to get a root canal in the next 3 days i might have sympathy for ya. nothing says fun like a root canal 4 days after you get all 4 wisdom teeth out.

do yourself a favor save as many of the script as you can, the first few days suck, but its worse when you have to go back to work and it starts acting up. give it about 2 weeks and the pain will subside.

BTW - dry socket does suck, you dont want that shit!

dude you know. its worse than the pain of having them removed.

I had morphine patches in my sockets for a week.

I had one of my wisdom teeth grow almost at a 90 degree angle from normal and they had to break the jaw bone to pull it out.

dry socket hurt a shit load more! than anything ever, its just a constant pain. it feels like its throbbing throughout your entire body an i was on about 30 percs a week and 15 vics.

Not even a day. When the pain became really unbearable.

I had one root canal and to be honest, it wasn't that bad. It was a lot better than the dry sockets that I got after having my wisdoms pulled.

I had a nurse holding me down and another nurse with the morphine drip button and anytime i would even look her way she would press the button.

I used to be a junkie and i can say with all honesty it was the most fucked up i have ever been in my life. i was giggling the entire time, at one point the dr. told me to keep it down it might "disturb" the other patients.

the root canal alone wouldnt have been so bad if i didnt just have my jaw cracked and 4 teeth ripped from my face!

it also took about 4 hours. its bad when you see the person whos working with a drill in your mouth shaking like a leaf. she waited until the end to let me know she has never had to drill so much the roots were almost impossible to get.

dental work sucks, but i could think of at least 10 other things i am now more afraid of than a little dental work.

Re: wisdom teeth removal.... owww..

When my wisdom teeth came in, I was preggers and there wasn't a dentist that would touch me. So I had to deal with them until after I had the baby. By then, they had completely grown all the way in but there were only 2 of them (top). Still no sign of the bottom ones.

Any news on they dry socket situation? Heard of it many, many times and from I gather, it totally sucks ass. Hopefully this is not the case and the bad breath, etc. you were describing were just normal side effects to this kind of procedure.

Some good info here... Dry socket (alveolar osteitis) - What are symptoms of dry sockets? What are the treatments?

Good luck and heal up soon!

Re: wisdom teeth removal.... owww..

had mine removed. 3 were impacted. (sideways) two 3 hours to get them out. Then an hour later the clotting ruptured and I was bleeding soo bad I couldn't shut my mouth. 2 hrs later bleeding stopped. Within the next few days I had 2 dry sockets. NOw that sucked.

Was not dry socket then, probably just pain from the extraction.

Dry socket occurs after a clot has formed and is then removed/lost thus exposing the bone and nerves to the air. This would start 3-4 days after the extraction or longer....

Just follow the docs orders, no straws, sucking or spitting. These actions dislodge the clot and make dry socket more likely. Don't smoke.

Re: wisdom teeth removal.... owww..

have you taken an anti-inflammatory? Oxy is just for pain, not swelling, I believe. You'd probably be more comfortable if you took ibuprofen.

When I got mine out, I got percs and they also told me to take ibuprofen for the swelling. I was ok after 2 days.

Rinse with 50/50 Listerine and water. Keep taking the advil. Quit whining.

Re: wisdom teeth removal.... owww..

I had all 4 of mine at at once as well...when I was 13 No swelling and I was eating normal the same day. They never bothered me but I I was getting braces and at the time the orthodontist would not guarantee any thing if I didn't have them out.

A couple years ago I had a root cannal on a moler...that was the SECOND worse thing I have ever felt in my life...The WORST thing was when the root cannal failed (dentist was a real turd) and I had to go get the thing yanked out. Wide awake, a bunch of shots to numb it, then hearing that tooth crack and shatter as they pull it out...not to mention it felt like someone was pulling on the back of my eyeball. No real pain but it was awefull sounding/feeling

Bunch of pussies. Had 2 (or 3?) of them pulled at same time, I survived and didn't make a thread about it.
