Anyone have any general tips for setting up a front stage with an active crossover?

here's what I have:
-Eclipse CD3100 headunit (5V pre-out)
-JL Audio 500/5 (100x2, 25x2, 250x1)
-Elemental Designs eDi 6500s component system
-Elemental Designs e10k, svc 4 ohm

The 100x2 channels on the JL are powering the 6.5" mid range drivers and the 25x2 channels are powering the tweeters.

Based on what tech support told me at eD, I set the tweeter high pass to 4000 Hz and used the 24dB/octave crossover slope.

The mid-range speakers have a high pass crossover set at around 80 Hz (with bandpass optional at 4000 Hz) at 12dB/octave.

The subwoofer low pass crossover is set for 80Hz at 12dB/octave

To set the gains on the subwoofer channel, I set the deck to 60/80, played a bass-heavy song, and adjusted the level until I read 31.6 volts on the multimeter (for a P=250W and R=4ohms), then turned it down slightly.

To set the gains on the midrange channels, I set the deck to 60/80, played a "loud" song, and adjusted the level until I read 20 volts on the multimeter (for a P=100W and R=4ohms), then turned it down slightly.

To set the gains on the tweeter channels, I set the deck to 60/80, played a "loud" song, and adjusted the level until I read 10 volts on the multimeter (for a P=25W and R=4ohms), then turned it down slightly.

do I just turn down the mid or tweeter gain until it sounds good? or is there a better way to set the adjustments?

should I be using the bandpass feature on the midrange speakers?

When I had systems, I found I needed to make adjustments depending on the music style to bring out the full "flavor" of a given track.

Basically, take a deep breath, relax, put down the multi-meter and listen to what your ears are telling you.

Also take a look at the speaker specs and make sure the gain on the amp is set so that the speakers aren't overloaded. You can easily over power a speaker and not hear it.

Use the settings the tech gave you as a starting point, but adjust them to your car, and your music.
