flashlights

anyone have any suggestions on a good flashlight?

I want a compact, durable, efficient flashlight to take on my trip to southeast asia then leave in the glove compartment of the car

the local wal-mart has a mini/2AA Maglite 3W LED for $20...are the LED ones any good?

Re: flashlights

If you go LED, don't buy cheap. Get one that says shock resistance if possible. I bought one for $10, it fell out of my hand onto a carpeted floor and broke.

Re: flashlights

I don't like the LED flashlights. I do however like the 2 AA mini maglites with the extra bulb in the base and the lantern option for like $10 at Home depot.

Get 2 of them, so you can leave one in a train too.

Re: flashlights

Surefire or Streamlight.

Look in a Galls catalog or Brigade quarter master

I have one and it's great. I have dropped it many times and it is still working like a champ and running on the original set for batteries. For the price you can't beat it. And it does focus like the regular bulb ones.

Re: flashlights

I bought an LED flashlight at the dollar store
it only has 3 LED bulbs but it's compact and
runs on only 2 AA batteries.

and it's bright! perfect for on the bike...just in case

Re: flashlights

+1 on Surefire. I've got one and absolutely love it. MUCH brighter than a Mini Mag.

Re: flashlights

Get a Fenix! They have so many models to choose from, and are just as good as surefires for everyday use, minus the cost of the surefire name.

Best place to buy in the states is https://www.fenix-store.com/ - great customer service and very knowledgeable.
